Are the refillable mugs worth it?

Hey all! I hope some of you can help make my decision easier. I'm not sure if the refillable mugs are worth it since they can't be refilled in the park. Any thoughts or experiences?

We don't get them because we think it is inconvenient to have to go to the food court in the resort to get a drink. Instead we stop at Public on the way to our resort and buy drinks there to keep in the refrigerator in our room. We also bring bottles of water from Public into the parks.

Maybe if you are spending a ton of time at your resort they could be worth it. We spend most of our time at the parks and just found the mugs to be a hassle to lug back and forth to our room since we didn’t want to carry them around.

Yeah this is why I'm having a hard time deciding. The idea of it seems great but since we'll be in the parks it feels like just one more thing to carry.

We didn’t get the refillable mugs this visit but at least two coffees a day and two fizzy drinks between us at the resort added up to more than $18 each, so would consider getting them next time.

You’d have to take them back to your room before going into the parks and then retrieve them when you got back if you wanted a drink though.

We liked them, but we had a dining plan. If I didn't have the plan I don't think I would have purchased them. My husband and I would get coffee every morning from the quick service area, the kids would get milk or pop. We rented a car so before we did any parks we would refill them and take them in the car for the ride. I would say we got plenty of use out of them, but only because they are part of the dining plan.

We got them with the Dining Plan during our last stay at the BC. We had the very last room before you get to Epcot on the fourth floor.. it was almost closer for us to walk to Epcot and get a Grey Goose Slushie. So yeah we didn't get much use out of them
:rotfl:Probably would've used them more if we had been closer to the lobby.

I get them because they are "free" with the dining plan. I must say the coffee at the resorts' QS tastes like dishwater (which is also free) but the tea offerings are fine as are the hot cocoa. I take one cup to the parks since it's an easy way to get and hold cold water. We don't drink much soda (kids are allowed one per day which must mean we are on vacation since at home it's only one per week, LOL) so no value on that level.

I think the use depends on your beverage consumption which is a personal and differing amount per family.

Worth is so subjective when referring to something like refillable mugs.
To us, no, they aren't worth it. We drink very few sodas, and prefer to make our own coffee we bring from home (in our coffee makers).
Also, as a souvenir, no, as we have a few from years ago and don't use them.

So, only you can decide the 'worth' to you.
Everyone is different.

For us, definitely worth it. We figure that if we drink 5 drinks out of it, we break even and have a souvenir to take home as a 'free' bonus. However, we have a teenage boy, and he is always willing to run from the room down to the food court to refill them for us as many times as we ask him to.

This depends completely upon your drinking tendencies. I drink exclusively water, and so it provides no benefit to me whatsoever. My 3 girls only drink water and milk, and we dont eat breakfast in the food court, so again, no benefit. DH drinks soda and is willing to make the run to the food court to fill his once we get the girls to bed after the parks at night, so for him it saves the cost of one drink per day.

However, if you tend to spend the afternoons in the hotel pool or eat breakfast in the food court in the mornings or even if you tend to return to the hotel earlier than we do at night, you might get a couple of drinks worth out of them per day, if soda is your thing. My mom likes hers because she can take a soda into the parks with her each morning. The frustrating thing about them is that they arent water tight. If you tilt them or put them in a stroller cupholder, they WILL spill. Because of this, we dont use ours for water in the parks either, we use our Camelbak bottles because they can get tossed into the backpacks or sit in the cupholder of our stroller without making a mess.

The long and the short of it is, it depends. It depends on your touring style, it depends on the beverages you prefer and it depends on what you want to use the mug for. For us, they sit unused in our room most of the trip, but for my mom they're indispensable.

I’ve found the $18 goes farther ordering cases of drinks from Amazon delivered to the resort that can be kept in the room fridge and taken to the pool or into the parks when we want them. That way we don’t have to worry about running back and forth to the refill station. If you do get the mug and stay at YC or BC BEE aware of the bees at the Hurricane Hannah station!

I’ve purchased one twice for coffee. I have caffeinated in the morning and decaf at night. That would mean two coffee purchases per day since im not going to save the disposable cup all day. That adds up. So for visits where I don’t have coffee easily available, I’ve gotten them.

This last visit I was at VGF, I have an owners locker with the big pods of coffee for the Dvc coffee makers, and VGF has an espresso machine. I didn’t ever need to go get coffee at the QS, so I didn’t get a mug.

I didn't get one this past trip. I stayed at BWI and there really wasn't a need for one. My next trip, I'll be at Art of Animation and will probably get one.

I will also add (as others have mentioned) that it also depends on what you like to drink. We aren't coffee or soda drinkers, we primarily drink water (and the occasional adult beverage). We find that getting a case of water at the Publix saves us a lot of money as a whole case is actually cheaper than ONE bottle of water in the parks.

Personally if you a coffee drinker yes! Plus we also come back in the afternoons to swim and relax so we get juice, tea or soda.. Plus being able to bring something back to the room at night if you want...

We loved the refillable mugs when we were in the dining plan. 1 or 2 morning coffees, and afternoon lemonade, evening decaf...we would buy them again.

Except...... For our trip next month I'm not as sure. But that's only because we're staying at CBR and it looks like coffee is available for free these days.

If Disney offered a $50 refillable Yeti mug with a classy design on it, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

For us, they are not worth it. Our room is often too far from the food court where we don't feel like walking there to fill them up. And we never want to bring them with us to the parks. We've only ever had them when we've been on the dining plan, which also seems useless to us since our DP meals include a drink.
