Are the parks SMOKE FREE?

We noticed people smoking everywhere! DS7 has asthma, so he had some trouble breathing once when we were in line for Big Thunder Mountain with someone smoking behind us. It also gives me migranes, so I was very sad to have to be exposed to so much second hand smoke!!!

No, the parks are not smoke free. There are designated smoking areas in each park but I don't believe they are enforced.

I have seen Cm go up to people who are not in smoking areas and make them put there cigerettes out.
I hate the people who think they can just walk around the parks in front of you and blow smoke in your childrens faces when there are special areas for them to smoke in.

There are definitely designated areas for smokers and none of them involve being in line

Seriously, we traveled last year with a smoker and they just pinpointed the different areas designated on the map and went to these areas when they needed one. No big deal, they normally did this while we either rode a ride or while we were snacking!

Whenever we saw a smoker, we would point the person out to the nearest CM, and they would take care of it. DH is a smoker, and he will only smoke in the designated areas. I hope he quits again before we go though!!

In defense of the smokers(kinda)

I must say that the policy of designated smoking areas is not widely publicized. The smoking areas in many cases are not clearly marked and can be difficult to find. For the informed this is no excuse, however for those who do not know and I believe that due to language barriers alone there are a lot of uninformed guests.

I did not hesitate to tell someone who was smoking in line, at a restaurant or parade that there were designated smoking areas in the parks and the majority of the time I believe they were surprised and put out the smoke.

WDW has visitors from all over the world. Most countries do not have the strict smoking policies you see here in the states and I think that a number of visitors just do not even think it is an issue.

Not always! This past January my 9 y/o GD and I got perfect seats just in front of the castle to watch Spectromagic. We had been there about 45 minutes when a young couple walked up beside of us and lit up cigarettes. I made sure we hadn't accidentally sat down in a designated smoking area and when I saw we hadn't, I politely informed them that this was not a designated smoking area. They both rolled their eyes and made comments about nonsmokers thinking they owned the world, that they were outside, and could smoke wherever they damn well pleased. By this point I saw politeness was not going to work, so told them to either put the cigarettes out or I'd call a CM to take care of it. Just as the guy started in with his comments again the guy sitting on the other side of us stood up and said 'either put the cigarettes out or move, or she won't have to call a CM'. This guy was about 6'6" and problably clost to 300lbs. They dropped the cigarettes right next to my GD's hand and stomped them out, again making comments about nonsmokers.

I do agree however that most smokers probably just don't realize how their smoke can affect nonsmokers.
