If they are charcoal, does the resort sell bags? I am really hoping for gas...we love grilling at Marriott Vacation Clubs with their nice gas grills.

Maybe things will change, but the grills are charcoal. I remember reading thread here asking that question regarding OKW. I know first hand about BCV and VWL.

Bobbi:)

SSR & BWV are charcoal. They sell the bags of charcoal at the resort in the gift shop.

MVCI definitely has DVC beat when it comes to grill & picnic areas.

Thanks and DARN IT! We thought we'd grill out one night but this may change things...

Now see, I prefer charcoal to gas. I like the convenience of gas, but on vacation I don't mind sipping a cool drink while the coals get hot!

My DH prefers charcoal also while on vacation. Something about a few drinks and playing horseshoes, brings us back to our childhood on Hampton Beach.

Last time we were at HH, we had to go tell some poor people that you don't light the charcoal and then immediately throw the chicken on. What a mess. The flames must have been 6 feet high off the grill. LOL

We will at at SSR in July. I don't know how to use a charcoal grill (have only used the gas ones). How does it work exactly?

Thanks so much!!

Buy a match light type charcoal and matches. About 15 minutes or so before you need to cook pile the coals in a pyramid and light them around the bottom in a few places. You'll have to judge how many you need which you can do by thinking about how much cooking area you need then stacking the briquette's in a double layer over that area to see then stack them to light with 4-5 extra above what you judged. Move the grate so it's out of the way prior to lighting, at SSR you should be able to flip it up vertical. The charcoal will flame up then burn down, be hot but not flaming up. Take a stick and spread the briquette's flat over the surface you intend to cook. You'll need to judge the height of the grate when you put it over the coals and give it a couple of minutes to heat up as well. Remember when you still or move the coals, it will create ash floating around. You'll need two pot holders because the grade is metal. There should be grilling utensils in the units. I hope this helps.

Just remember - when the coals are no longer black - they are ready. There is no flame - but the coals will be glowing red and they will be gray. If you cook any sooner - your food will taste like lighter fluid.

I am a "gas girl" and plan on doing some grilling at OKW in September. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice how to use charcoal. I only know how to grill using gas grill. I think I really need to see someone do it once so that I can figure it out.

Dean - thanks for the detailed instructions. I guess grill is not for me on this trip.
