We prefer onsite, also, but for the difference in price and the luxury of having a place with 2 master suites, I would go offsite. The parking fee is $11 per day, and you keep the receipt to show at a second (or third) park if you decide to park-hop. It's a per-day cost.
We got a free week at an offsite resort thanks to my generous step-mom, and while it wasn't the Boardwalk (we are DVC), it was very nice, and no one could beat the price.
Personally, I would save the money and stay at a value resort on another vacation.
