Are the "experts" ever satisfied?

They named their first child after Matthew's father, which should have been a clue that they were traditionalists when it comes to naming children and weren't likely to go with something like Stargazer Cherryblossom Footmassage. :rotfl2:

The names Elwell and Hodge are from her family. (surnames) No surprise there. Who knows where they got the first names, but they aren't flashy or trendy and that's not a shocker. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out those names are nods to someone in the family as well.

I do think it's odd that one kid got one more name that the other. I'd have evened it out.

The parents are named Matthew and Sarah. A brother is James. Marion and Tabitha ought to fit in just fine. When you think of it, Tabitha is the most "cutting edge" of the bunch and that's not saying a lot. :rotfl:

I was just happy that they didn't name their kids Apple. The names are nice & solid. I also thought of Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days. :)

One thing I wonder, :scratchin Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick is four names, whereas Tabitha Hodge Broderick is 3 names. Are they planning to call her "Marion Loretta" as the whole first name, like "Sarah Jessica"? Why does Tabitha only have 3 names? :confused3 (Not that I really care either way.)

Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark, is also spelled with an O.

OOOh here's a thought...her initials will be M.L.E. They can call her Emily!:rotfl: (I love it when initials spell something...)

My sister did that...sort of...she loved the name Kasey and so she named her daughter just that - Kasey but then she made her middle name Christine so her initials are her name - K.C.!!!

AND when my sister speaks of Kasey or calls to her...she actually says it more like her initials Kay-Cee!!! :rotfl:

Did that make any sense at all?

I like Marion--I've known a few Marions (all female) but the name always most makes me think of Marion, Karen Allen's character in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Tabitha is cute too!

I was reading an article today that the baby name experts were blasting Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick for choosing names that were "too old fashioned." So if you pick a name out of the norm you're a weirdo, if you pick family names you are old fashioned. Are we just suppose to name every little girl Brittany and every little boy Brandon? Why can't we just let parents name their kid whatever they want without commentary?

I had to laugh because I have a niece named Brittany(born mid 90's)and a nephew Brandon(late 80's)!
:rotfl:

I'm not too fond of Tabitha but then again, 2 of my girls have old fashion names and everyone criticized them when they were born. Sure enough both of them were in the top names several years later and now they're pretty common. Little did I know that we were ahead of the trend. ;)

Whenever I hear "Marion" I think of Marion the Librarian in "The Music Man." I had a great aunt named Marion, and she was such a nice lady. Unfortunately in my family, a lot of our older relations have awful names that I would never want to burden a child with.

My 5 year old nephew is Henry, which was "unusual" at the time, but it suits him perfectly!

I had that song stuck in my head even before I got to your post!
Oh - and while I have no opinion on the Marion/Marian debate, hers is actually spelled Marian :duck:.

Like another poster said, the thing that caught my attention is that one child was given 4 names and one was given 3 names. That seemed a little odd :confused3.

None of those names are as bad as "MoxieCrimefighter" or "Apple."

Flippin celebrities.

I, too, started humming "Marian the Librarian" as soon as I saw it. Because of that movie, I associate the name with carion and wouldn't name my kid "Marian." But it's an okay enough name.

My DS17's girlfriends name is Marion. She is 16 years old. I think it is a very sweet and pretty name.

I always thought Tabitha was a cute name too, also reminds me of the little girl from "Bewitched".

The names are unsual in that you won't see many other kids with them. That's always nice. My only quibble is that they named their daughter Marion (traditional male spelling) instead of Marian (traditional female spelling).

OK...I just looked this up online. It is now listed as Unisex. It is listed as Boys name on another site, but also says...used for female as well.

And to the person who asked why it bothered me....it didn't so much. I just thought it was strange to use the boy version. But I see it's not so much boy as I thought.
