Are the CMs at the resort enforcing the no smoking rule?

If you have complaints yes management will deal with it. CMs such as housekeeping etc. are not going to go up and confront a guest.

I think people complain here more than they do to Disney and only they can fix the problems.

Just back from a 10 day trip staying at Pop Century and BWV's.

While at Pop Century I was talking on my cell phone to a friend telling her I was just walking back from the designated smoking area. The lady in the room next to me said, "What smoking areas?" I explaned that each resort now had the smoking areas around the resort were smokers could smoke. She said she didn't know about this so I explaned about how the smoke gets sucked into the rooms if someone smokes outside the room. As she was smoking a cigarette at the time I thought she should know about this and the possible fines involved. She said she didn't care :confused3 just kept smoking and said "I won't tell if you don't."

I told her we were checking out but I wouldn't risk having my room smell like smoke or the money for cleaning it. I also saw evidence of other guest that had been smoking near or outside their rooms. Most guest at Pop were using the smoking areas though.

Over at BWV's I never saw anyone smoking that wasn't in a designated area.

I did see a few people smoking at the parks that were not in the designated smoking areas.

July OKW saw lots of smoking on balconies and in front of the villas. The second week in the 1BR was a real treat when the couple in the studio kept coming to their Villa entrance and smoking outside in their underware and lingerie--my DS 15 really enjoyed the show. Relly "Classed" the place up!:scared1: Obviously no one said anything since it went on all week. I didn't make any complaints about it, but that was because I thought they were going to enforce the rule.
Last two days of htat vacation were at the Poly CL--noticed noone smoking where they were not supposed to be.

Anyone heard anything about CSR or AKL? How is it there? Everyone sticking to the DSA's? I'm sure at AKL they are since they have the cameras.

... I wonder if this should be listed as an attraction on the resort maps. :)

More seriously, I've noticed that both OKW and SSR not only have traditional DSAs, but also note on the resort maps that Designated Smoking Locations are also at the front of each Guest room building. I wonder if the wording causes confusion, i.e., I wonder if some may think that means at their Villa entrance. IMO, I would interpret that to mean away from the entrance to the buildings, but ya never know...

If you don't like smoking walk a different way. The smokers are in the smoking area minding there own business, Disney researched it's smoking areas and came up with the best solution for everyone.

one of my favorite building at OKW - 55 - has smoking at the ONLY entrance to this building.

so I can't stay there in the future. Also at EVERY hot tub - there is smoking.

believe me I would avoid if I could. Disney has not allowed me to do with hottub.

as I say they want to be sued. If they had researched it - they won't be in the only way in for some building.

not a question of not liking it. Allergic reactions - asthma - rash - fever, etc.

when you are allergic to something either you take pills (there are none that help with tobacco), drugs (taking everything I can now) or shots (again none).

I start coughing, then can collapse and may stop breathing.

now if there was a way to get rid of all my allergies - just tell me - I have tried just about everything.

At least you can try to avoid the areas.
I'm allergic to many perfumes and aftershaves, especially the flowery ones.
Try avoiding that smell in line or in a restaurant.
It gets so bad sometimes, I can't taste the food, my throat starts closing up, my eyes water, and I have trouble breathing.

oh yes I agree completely. even here at work - they put that awfully stuff in the hand liquid soap.

nothing like holding your nose when you try to use the restroom.

not to mention that smell linger - so glad I am no longer in that department!

I don't smoke and I really don't care. :confused3 Some people just need something to complain about IMO. What tests do you take to determine that your allergic to smoke, I never heard of them myself but I'm sure there are some you can take?? I really doubt you'll stop breathing because of cigarette smoke 2nd hand inhaliation while passing by a smoker, I never heard of that one :sad2: I think more people get more problems from sitting in traffic inhaling exhaust fumes through their open window in the summer. Myself I just put on the AC and close the window lol. :) Don't get me wrong I think people should follow the rules, but I also think people complain just to complain too.

We stayed in the middle of June. The Wilderness Lodge was great. It was truly the first trip where I spent a lot of time relaxing on the balcony because no one smoked on the ones around us... Saw lots of folks using the designated smoking area toward the Villas and was glad to see it was there.

We went to the Poly one morning to swim. I approached the life guard to ask if there was a designated area near the pool, so we could avoid it. He said as Mickey had not removed the ashtrays yet, it was too much for them to enforce. Regardless, there seemed to be less smoking than usual.

My parents stayed at Riverside 2 nights while we were there. Went swimming at the main pool there... Smoking all over. Again, asked a lifeguard where the "safe" areas were. This guard actually informed me that you can smoke anywhere outside at Disney resorts. I told him the new policy went into effect June 1st (it was approx the 12th) and he looked at me like I had antlers...

Typical Disney, saying one thing and doing another... But overall my impression was there was less smoking in common areas, which I appreciate.

Also, my two cents regarding allergies... My Mom has asthma, and I have learned that until you have walked in someone's shoes, you don't KNOW their medical issues.... Many allergic people are highly sensitive to smoke and severely alleregic people do have nasty reactions to a lot of irritants. I know that I avoid smoke like the plague because it seriously irritates my throat. While I do not know if I am clinically "allergic" to it (as I am to dust and mold) I sure know being around it makes me feel bad... So I DO think second hand smoke IS a medical issue.

And some of us complain about smoking because of severe allergies, not because we like to complain...

Seriously, having to complain about people not following rules gets my blood pressure up, because I hate being a whiner. But I'm one of the people who has had to walk out of restaurants who couldn't get me away from smokers, request alternate hotel rooms, and almost stop travel abroad because I'm so allergic to the smoke.

So will I complain to the nearest CM if I find myself in a situation where I am having trouble avoiding smoke? Of course I will, or I'll ask someone I'm travelling with to, simply because I really like breathing easily. Have I had allergy tests because of this? No, you don't really need an allergy test to know that your eyes are watering severely and your passages are constricting. Benadryl helps; being around smoke is merely unpleasant when I've taken it.

I'm known of people who reacted the same way to cats. Those people can't visit me, because I have three. Allergies are allergies. Count yourself fortunate if you don't have any and so can't understand the problems they cause those of us who do.
