Are the CMs at the resort enforcing the no smoking rule?

I read a post or two a just after the ban and it seemed like they weren't cracking down on it very much. Of course this isn't related to the DSA which seem to be near the pools. I have two trips planned and really want to see if it is still a problem. In particular for me at least is the Poly and WL.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

We stayed at the Poly first week of Aug. If I had not read this board we would not have known about the new smoking rules. At check in we were not told. No where was it written with our info. It wasn't posted in the room. I did see a little sign saying "designated smoking area" outside at the stairs.

FYI, I was reading on another board, frequented by cast-members, that they were told by management not to enforce the new no-smoking rules unless there is a complaint by another guest.   So. if you see someone smoking where they're not supposed to be, complain loudly!!! :rolleyes1

I stayed at the Beach Club Villas the second and third week of July. I never would have known about the new rule if not for this board. We always used the designated smoking area along the walkway between the Villas and the hotel, but we saw multiple people smoking on their balconies every day. Cast members walked right by the rooms and never said a word. :confused3
There were no signs in the room saying that the rules had changed. The no smoking sign has always been on the outside of the door, so that's not new.

I'm not trying to start trouble, but the smoking area was more in the way and "in your face" than the people smoking on their balconies were. Everyone who left the Villas had to walk by the smoking area.

We have always requested a smoking room in the past. We did so again this year (we never smoked in the rooms, but wanted a building that allowed smoking to smoke outside the rooms)
We recieved a call when the new policy went into affect explaining the rules and that there would be designated smoking areas.
This would probably be why there are no signs. If you walked in to a room in a building that never allowed smoking, and saw the signs, many people would assume it was a former smoking room and request a transfer.
Every one of our three parties recieved a call, including my Mil and Fil who were only in the smoking building to be near the rest of us.
I can only assume that the same call went out to all guests who requested smoking rooms.
If they get busted for not following the new rules, no one can say they hadn't been warned.
I may smoke, but I am one of the sticklers for only doing so in a designated area.

PLEASE! If you have a rule--use it!

We were never told when we were there in June. We had to find out the areas ourself.

Instead, if you see someone smoking where you're sure they're not supposed to be, approach the nearest Cast Member and request action in a mature, adult manner.

We requested a smoking room and did not get a call, which I was pretty surprised about since our trip has been paid in full since last October. :confused3

We don't smoke in our home and I always hated smoking in hotel rooms anyways so it doesn't bother me a whole lot, just hope I don't have to run around like a headless chicken when we do want to smoke. I thought the areas would be very clearly marked.

That was another thing I noticed, the map wasn't exactly clear unless you know the grounds of the hotel. We requested smoking and never got the call.

We were called in June and informed of the change.
I was pleased to see that the maps on the wdwinfo site were already updated to show the new smoking areas.
We will miss our early morning adult time sitting outside the rooms drinking coffee and smoking while the kids are still sleeping, but maybe it will get us going sooner.
we don't smoke in our house either, and avoid smoking in the rooms because of the kids.
We always requested smoking so we wouldn't be in a non smoking builiding and smiking outside the rooms.

We were at Pop a few weeks ago and they didn't seem to really be enforcing it. No different than in the parks. People still pretty much light up where and when they feel like it.:sad2:

we were at the GF in july and were told and they were enforcing it at sugar loaf
one night there was a woman standing on her balcony smoking a CM saw her and told her no smoking. She was on the second floor looking out at the pool.

I agree and that is a BIG problem for me. allergic to tobacco.

would rather have people smoke in their rooms than in my face.

think Disney really wants to be sued over this issue. Or the smoking areas would not be in people faces.

they are in the swimming area and mostly by the hot tubs also.

disney did NOT plan well for this change.

smoking areas should not be in people paths who DON'T smoke. just makes us non-smokers mad at your smokers and it is NOT your fault. It is Disney!!!

If you don't like smoking walk a different way. The smokers are in the smoking area minding there own business, Disney researched it's smoking areas and came up with the best solution for everyone.

Spiceycat,
I can sympathize with you somewhat on that issue.
At least you can try to avoid the areas.
I'm allergic to many perfumes and aftershaves, especially the flowery ones.
Try avoiding that smell in line or in a restaurant.
It gets so bad sometimes, I can't taste the food, my throat starts closing up, my eyes water, and I have trouble breathing.
There have been times I've had to get out of line, or step away from the table because I couldn't breathe.
Can you imagine the look I would get if I mentioned something about that?

I do my best not to blow smoke at people who are walking by, and to keep my butts away from kids, regardless of the allergy issues, but some people seem to think if you can't smell them 100 yds away, they don't have enough stinky stuff on and bath in some more.

I agree but the problem usually arises when smoker is not following the rule.
In my opinion, because it relates to health issue of others, smoker should not think smoking area as "entitlement". They should think that their right is being restricted by smoking just like restricting the usage of cell phone at hospital.
