I have not heard much talk recently, what with all the hype around the CL opening. Are the carpets still grounded in the Aladdin show, or are they flying again? (I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope)
:scared:

I haven't heard much on this either. My mother-in-law saw the show 10 days ago and called and asked me afterwards why they don't fly the carpet anymore, so obviously it wasn't working for her show.

We were there the weekend of June 9 - 11 and there was no carpet scene. It was weird because they didn't even have singers on stage. So you just heard the performers and saw the "landmarks" on stage being paraded around. It made me feel like, "Where is everyone?"

I don't expect it to return.

I do wish they would redo the scene a bit to not make it so obvious that there is a huge part of the scene missing.

I didn't know that they grounded the carpets when I saw the show, so I was very surprised by that scene, very weird, it just looked bad. The show looses a lot because of it.

Yes, unfortunately the carpet that used to fly around overhead has not been used in months. CLICK HERE to see a personal video of the time the carpet flipped upside down, leaving the actors hanging. Very scary. HERE is coverage by the local news.

Yiiiikes that video is scary!! That poor girl! I hope they get that sorted out but if that's what it was doing, I'm glad they're going the safer route of leaving that part out until they can be sure that the actors will be safe. I haven't seen the show so I can't comment on what they could do instead to fill the gap, but I'm sure there's something and I hope they do it soon!

That scene is so awkward now, and in just a few months it will have been a year since the incident. I'd say that's plenty of time to come up with something other than dead stage space.

the video is too dark can't see anything
it was a freak accident probably would never happen again and the safety system worked exactly like it was supposed to which is why no one got hurt I mean my God that is why they have it.
SOmetimes I just think one accident and the safety system works and they get rid of it???

This was likley not a Disney decision but a CalOSHA decision. Anytime a work related accident/incident happens, CalOSHA has to give it the okay before it can go back into use/reopen.

Thats too bad.

The last I heard is that they were still grounded due to weather conditions; too much fog.

~~ I love you Phil and you will forever be with me! Forever my very best and most special friend! I love you to no end. ~~

I saw the show about a month ago, I'd never seen video or knew that the carpet used to fly, and the scene felt fine to me.

Obviously if I hadn't seen it before I wouldn't know anything was missing, but I thought it was kind of cool they had the fog on the stage and the landmarks and the carpet floated around on stage.

We recently cruised on the Fantasy where the Aladdin show is now shown.

A few cruisers who are frequent DL visitors commented about how they didn't like the show on the Fantasy as the one at DL was so much better because the carpet flew and the Genie was better.

It sounds like the DL version of the flying carpet scene is now very similar to the cruiseline's version.

FWIW: I've seen both shows and think they are both great given their venues.

Why don't they just use the magic carpet that is grounded on the stage (the one that they appear from at the end of "A Whole New World"?) They can sing their song and just use that "carpet" and get off where they usually do?

But I thought those were stunt doubles? Is risk not part of the job? And they were prepared for it seeing as how no one got hurt.

This happened almost a year ago, and as far as I know this is the first accident in the YEARS this show has been running.

I do not comprehend this decision.

Not to be rude, but then apparently you've never worked with a government agency before :lmao:

In all seriousness, the safety harness system is in place for safety, but it should never have to be used. There was obviously a serious mistake error defect or incident with the rigging, and before they'll allow the carpet to fly again CalOSHA will absolutely require a report that states exactly what happened, exactly why it happened, and either A) why that was a one time thing that should never happen again or B) what changes have been made to keep it from recurring.

I suspect the powers that be are optimistic that they'll get the green light "soon" which is why they haven't made more extensive staging changes... but "soon" in government time can be three years, easily, on a workplace safety issue.
