Are temps and crowds pretty equal through July & mid-August?

We're going to try to take a summer trip, just wondering if there's much of a difference between July through the 2nd week of August as far as heat and crowds go. Is there much of a difference in days of the week during summer? If we get there before opening, use FPs well, and rest in the afternoon, is it doable with most lines under 30 min.?

I'll chime in. I don't go much during July and August since DD9 is in school but both July and August can be hot, even very hot. :sunny: Luckily it's a dry heat! :rotfl2: (usually no humidity.) No matter how hot it is during the day, the temp. will drop substantially at night. We have very little hot nights here in So. Cal. :goodvibes

As far as crowds go I would say it'll be about the same. Local schools are on summer break. Tourists are in town. Later in August you may see a drop in tourists as you get closer to Labor Day. Around July 4th crowds will be more.

HTH.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are asking. Since no one has replied, perhaps others are confused too.

You said, "wondering if there's much of a difference between July through the 2nd week of August as far as heat and crowds go" So, you are planning a trip from July through mid August? What are you wanting to compare that to? Spring? Thanks for clarifying so we can help with your question.

As for the second part of your post - lines under 30 minutes in the middle of summer are very unlikely. Using FPs will help with those attraction, but remember, FP is only available on 8 attractions at DL and a handful at DCA.

Im going in August, have done so before and its crowded but we manage to get several rides done by noon, then take a break and then go back in the afternoon/ evening. use fast pass, and do early morning, bring lots of water and all will be well. :) Have a wonderful magical time

I think the OP means are there any days in that time frame that are a better time to go. (Less crowds, not as hot) & are there any days during that time frame that is not a good time to go. (More crowded, hotter). Does July compare to the first 2 weeks of August or is one month better than the other to go. At least that is how I understood the question.

The later in August, the smaller the crowds, but they pick up towards the end and Labor Day.

Mid-August is great because it's summer schedules, but manageable crowds.

from my own past experience, it will be crowded and i'd say typically it will be hot (if your really unlucky the humidity will kick in). But like others have said, take full advantages of FP and bring water (at $2.75 per bottle it can add up fast).

Being an AP we normally only hit DCA and DL at dusk or night because of the heat.

Yep, wdhinn89 interpreted my questions correctly. :thumbsup2 We upgraded to APs when we were there in March and I want to take the kids down sometime in the summer. Unfortunately they have a short summer this year, with year round school so they're not out until July and back again August 18th. I wasn't sure if temps got hotter by end of July, beginning of August and if crowds seemed to stay pretty consistent throughout summer as well. If it's miserable heat and crowd wise we might reconsider, but it sounds like it's doable. We went during spring break a few years ago and while it was definitely crowded, we still had fun. We'll hit the pool and takes naps in the afternoon and only do week days.

And OT question, is Sea World super crowded as well or worth a day trip down there?

HydroGuy has some weather info in this thread: :cool2:

August is only slightly hotter than July.
For July/Aug, the Avg High temps are 85/86.9.
For July/Aug, the Avg Low temps are 64.1/64.3.

I visited in Aug '07 (weekdays) and I found it to be hot, but not too bad. Just stay hydrated and take advantage of the shade and you should be O.K. The crowds in August were there, but I found them to be manageable. Just be sure to go Early! Early! Early!, and use FastPass. This year we're going back in late-June/early-July. IMO July will be marginally busier than August, but I think either will be manageable with a little bit of good planning. :thumbsup2

Hopefully someone will chime in about Sea World.

Okay, well....
August is hot. I would say it gets into the 90s mid-day. The nights come down to high 60s, low 70s.

As for crowds, they are there. It's summer, Disneyland is open late, it's busy.

Sea World is a great place if you have never been. I haven't been in the summer in quite a few years so I can't really compare the crowds, but I would imagine they are busy (again, summer vacation for many). San Diego overall is a bit cooler temp-wise than OC.

We have always gone 2nd-3rd week of August. It is very warm and it is very busy, but if you go ealry, things go easier. Use the FP system and take breaks. Have fun, it is a great time of the year.
