Are Swan/Dolphin now Disney Properties?

Ok Im on the site now and looking to book a reservation and I do not see the Swan or dolphin listed as an option??!!!

I never book my trips through Disney and do everything separately on my own to take advantage of the discounts, especially the ones given at the Swan:banana:

What you want to request is an Epcot view. It is also the east wing of the hotel that has that view.

If there is any more info you need don't hesitate to ask.

Not only can you watch Illuminations from your balcony but you can also see Wishes which is a double treat:wizard:
Wow! That DOES sound like quite a treat!! Is that the room catagory you always request?
My sister is a nurse, too, so we can get her discount. Having never stayed there, is that the best we can do discount-wise, other than getting one of those cards mentioned above?

Usually, the nurse, gov't rate is the best you can do. It's a great rate. i used the rate on my last trip and saved 200/night.

That is the best rate because I too get the teacher's discount:thumbsup2

If you decide to go definitely sign up for the SPG card. There is no cost and you can earn points for your stay which you can use for future visits:yay:

And what's the best way to do that? By phone or online?
And do I need to have a ressie booked to do that?

It's easy to join online! Here is the site

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/index.html

Toward the lower left just click on "join now."

You don't have to have a ressie to join but once you do join and you get your member number then I would call them and let them know your ressie dates so they can mark your account.

If you're really used to staying in Disney resorts, is it a huge letdown to be at the S/D? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this, as the prices at S/D are much more affordable to me! Plus, posters have said that EPCOT and MGM are walkable...

no it's not a let down, they have Disney Giftshops and everything, it's very awesome! Espically the pool! I definatly recomend stayin there!

Really???? I have never found them on the Disney website as an option to book online?? hmmm I must not be paying attention :)

It's not that. I've been doing this for quite some time also and have not seen the S/D listed in the Deluxe section before. Maybe in a different category, but never under "Deluxe" resorts. At least now i know they're not Disney owned properties, which was my biggest reason for starting this thread.

One thing about SPG that we can't get from any Disney rewards are free nights! We're staying 8 nights at the Swan in December, total cost? Zero, Zip, Nada. We don't need room charging privileges since we use our Amex Starwood card while staying and we're earning points towards our next stay.

Your very welcome!

Did you sign up?

Not yet, but I intend to. I mentioned the S/D to my sister (who is a nurse) yesterday as a possibility for our trip to the F&W festival next year, and asked her to be thinking about staying at the Swan instead of the BC. Right now our trip for this Nov. at the GF is more on our minds!!

We are doing the same! Staying 8 nights at the Dolphin in November for FREE! :woohoo:

My daughter and I stayed at the Swan in August for 1 week. We had joined Starwood points just before the trip. We had a direct, unblocked view of the Tower of Terror and could easily see the Mickey Ears water tower and the Boardwalk from our window. I would attach photos but am electronically impaired. We could actually watch the fireworks at night. We got a special offer from the DIS Boards back in February of $129 per night. We loved walking on the Boardwalk and to/from Epcot and MGM. MGM was a bit long and too hot for us as it was around 4pm on a very hot day. The rest of the walks were fabulous. A 1st class Boardwalk location and hotel at nearly value prices. Can't wait to go again. Additionally, my daughter wants a feather bed and downy comforter to get as close to the Heavenly beds as possible.

Same here... 2 1/2 years of saving SPG points has us in a 1 bedroom suite at the Dolphin for 7 nights between Christmas and NYE for FREE. Hard to justify staying at a "Disney" resort with that kind of perk. Love Starwood - same point value any time of year and no black out dates.
