I just saw in another thread that someone said that a stroller rental is $31. Even is that is for a double stroller that is outrageous. I know Disney can charge anything they want but this seems like they are taking advantage of people who have to rent one.:confused3 :confused3 I know you pay for convenience but it seems like they charge whatever they want because they can. Well actually they are trying to deter people who rent then for thier 8 and up children. The parks are too jammed with strollers as it is. The older children cause wear and tear on the strollers themselves costing Disney $$$ each year. I for one am glad they hiked the prices up. It tends to get a bit ridiculous being jammed in the ankles constantly by parents pushing children in strollers who should be walking.

Where did you get that information?

Sorry but I disagree. The wandering, distracted kid being yanked around by the hand is far more likely to step in front of me than a supervised child in a stroller.

Also, when you are in a stroller you are in a single file formation more conducive to moving along whereas the families that walk straight across block traffic.

You have the right to disagree.
But.... I've been on these boards for awhile now and read many posts on this subject. Since they hiked up the prices there are not nearly as many strollers in the park. I visit 2 to 3 times a year so I have seen it first hand. Now people are renting wheelchairs in place of strollers because it is cheaper. I'm not talking toddlers here I am talking about the 8, 9, and ten year olds and up that were causing way to much congestion in the parks by being pushed in strollers.

There also is an outside company that deals with the strollers anyways.

I too have been here quite awhile and we have PAP's which we use at least 4 times a year. More if my DH doesn't notice we've gone.;)

Anyhoo, who cares how old the kids and and my point sill holds. Walking 3 across holding hands at a slower pace causes more congestion than when I had my two in a stroller. In all of my years I think I hit two people in the ankles when it was my fault. I have had multiple kids a day step in front of me everyday not paying attention. The ratio isn't even close. That is what I've experienced first hand.

My question was, how do you know that they it was to deter the 8 and up crowd.

Not sure if that's the correct price for a single stroller but it seems awfully high. I think when we used them (years ago) a single was 8.00.

I don't think the age of a child has anything to do with the price of a stroller. Disney has no way of knowing how old the children are that are using the strollers. Unless things have changed in the past few years, Disney doesn't ask the ages of the children when they rent the strollers. If they're making money off them, I doubt they even care.

It has everything to do with supply and demand and what people are willing to pay to rent the stroller. Disney will set the price at what people are willing to pay. When people stop renting their strollers, the cost to rent will probably drop.

Confirming - a double stroller is $31/day, $27 a day if you get the multi-day pass and pay for all the days up front.

I can't remember the single stroller price - something like $23/$18, but I can't recall.

And I agree, that a lot of the huge price increase is meant to lower demand for the strollers and it might be working. At the very least, it must be helping the bottom line of Orlando Stroller Rentals!

Isn't this assuming a whole lot? Judging children is always a great thing to do:sad2: How do you know the child does not have a handicap that requires them to ride in a stroller? Or like in my case, children who are really tall for their age and people ASSUME they are a whole lot older than they really are.

I just find the quoted statement to sound to ASSUME a little too much:headache:

The downside to the increased prices is that more parents will be bringing their own strollers or renting offsite which means more strollers on the buses. I feel so sorry for the poor parents who have to stand on the bus holding kids, backpacks and lugging a stroller and it makes the buses even more crowded.

Yep, we think its worth every penny. I'd rather spend $62 per day than have my strollers stolen. I just worry way too much. I know most people never have a problem with a stroller being stolen but I just don't want mine stolen. LOL. I've taken my own strollers a few times and I always ALWAYS worry about them while I'm on rides and in restaurants. It brings my whole trip down because I'm worrying the whole time.

Oh and I'm sure if Disney wanted to deter the parents of older children from renting, they could put an age/size limit on them...

If i'm not mistaken I think Disneyland CA lets you rent there strollers for free if you have a Disney Visa, I wish WDW would do the same...

AP holders can get stroller rentals for free.:thumbsup2 Just like they get free parking.:thumbsup2

Didn't WDW just update their strollers? Maybe they increased cost to compensate for the redesign.

I have to admit even if you have an 8yo who weighs 80 pounds in a double stroller, that is the same as two 40 pound 5yo. I don't think it's any more wear and tear unless they are cramming them into a single stroller. By our 4th day in the parks I would have gladly ridden in a WDW stroller my feet were so tired. How can I expect a child to bear up as well?:confused3

Unless they've changed policy, children who require a stroller as a wheelchair and have a GAC saying so can have a stroller rented for them at the wheelchair cost. But I never saw a child using a WDW stroller as a wheelchair; if a small child needed a wheelchair, the family always had its own stroller.

You can't assume that because a child looks old enough to walk that they are able to.

I agree. My DD is coming from CA to meet me and she didn't want to bring the stroller on the plane and then on the disney bus with 2 kids going to the different parks. I think I will buy one in Walmart because that is crazy.

At $62 per day, that would be over $240 for just a four day stay, more than enough to replace pretty much any stroller you might have stolen while you are there. I think at that price, I might be inclined to take my chances on my stroller being stolen.

We will be paying to rent again this year, though we'll be getting the single. It isn't about our stroller getting stolen for us, we hardly ever use it at home anyway. It's about the inconvenience of dealing with a stroller on the bus, which is four times more difficult when you are trying to hold yourself up while standing, and keep your 5yo on his feet at the same time.

<---reciently went to renting the strollers. And we probably will until we are90 yrs old. Sorry, but there is not a better vacation platform than a Disney Stroller that you don't have to lug from park to park.
