Are split bathrooms TOO SMALL?

After looking at my tape from travel channel for the 80th time , I started to worry about the size of those split bathrooms. I am claustrophobic, and am scared I will feel too "closed in."
I am ok in public stalls because it is a larger room . Has anyone experienced feeling too close in there?

No never felt they were "too" small. I won't kid you, they are narrow, but we have always found them to be very functional and I never felt closed in.

As a single parent travelling with a small child... I wish I could get my verandah room with a NON split bathroom... I did find it WAY too small and claustrophobic!

I didn't find them too small - but I never had to help anyone else. I can see that they would be small if you're having to help a child. Although for one week I could handle it!

I found the shower/tub side ok but the toilet side could use some more room, cat6. But they were wonderful! dont forget to watch your step I dont know how many times I stubed my toe or triped coming out!!!! ps I have pictures of them I'll post as soon as I finish unpacking!

It is an interesting topic to me because we just got off the Magic 05/03/03 sailing and my wife and I had an opportunity to upgrade to a larger veranda cabin with split bathrooms for the difference in cost. Now we have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 5 year old that are very able to get veranda doors unlocked. So we prebooked a catigory 11 which has 1 bathroom with a tub (Not split). We looked at the upgrades and decided to stay where we were. By the way the single bathroom has the Same tub and the same amenities as the split ones. The split bathrooms are ok but they are not extrodinarily roomy (very crampt toilet room) and unessesary unless you have:

1. Teens or people who hog the bathroom or need extra space for putting on make up etc.

2. Traveling with a party larger than 2 adults or 2 children.

3. Large family who would need more bathroom space.

4. Fear of entering a bathroom that may be let's say "unpleasantly sented".

The single bathroom was more than adaquite and we were happy we stayed in room 6553 instead of upgrading. It also had a fold down bunk and a couch that made into a bed which was like sleeping in a bunk bed for our children. Another thing we found interesting is that the catigory 11 room King sized bed was laid out SO much better and space eficient than the more expensive rooms because their was no window or veranda to deal with. We had adaquite privacy curtain for our family which was the same thing the veranda rooms have.

It is really nice to take a nap in a room that is COOL and dark. Outside rooms are warmer and more difficult to keep cool at night.

Thanks so much everyone. I was definitely concerned about the commode side. It looks like the tub side is a little bigger because of the tub. Oh well, I am not going to cancel because of it, that's for sure.

Tiny or not, I think I am really gonna like having that spit bath. DH likes to spend forever in the bathroom in the mornings. DS and I would be dancing around, or heading out to the nearest public restroom!!!

Seems that it was much larger when I started the cruise than it was when I ended it. Might be due to overconsumption of shrimp.

Perhaps you could get one of the handicapped rooms if they are not being used for handicapped people....we had one and the bathroom was VERY large and there is no sill to trip over going in. I was talking to one woman who said she had a bruise from squeezing through the doorway of the regualr rooms bathroom because the door was so small (and she was not all that large of a woman, not thin but not obese.)

I am 6'4" and the ONLY thing I found small was the height of the shower ceiling. My head just touched and I had to shrink down a bit. The rooms themselves are fine.

Aprilgail2, that may be another option. I think I will check on the handicapped rooms. I don't know if they have them for a cat.9 or not. I can't afford higher, and I do need to see out, so the porthole is fine. I will ask to be on a wait list if they have it. I don't want to take a room that a truly handicapped person would need. For our Sept. cruise, I will check about a week before to see if there are any available. It's funny, but I didn't get this way until after my 2nd heart surgery. It's like my chest won't allow me to breathe if I am too closed in. I think I will be taking the steps too, because those elevators on the ship look awfully narrow on the video.
