Are spiritual mediums for real or fake? Have you ever been to one?

Yes have been to a group session, yes have had a reading & yes it was all accurate. Even at the group session - i.e., a deceased brother came through for the sister & answered questions about his sister's wedding plans. No way the SM would have known those details about the wedding to be. That's one example, we had about 12 people given messages (almost everyone there) and all meant something to the receiver.

Wow, I'm shocked at how many people on The Dis here actually believe this stuff. I guess it just goes to show that people will believe what they want to believe.

Jessica~ Glad to hear you had a good experience. I do believe that there are genuine people out there who have gifts and are able to help. I do question certain things. If this "gift" is spiritual and you as the psychic ascribe to that. Why charge $200 - $1000 to people who are in pain and grieving over the loss of a loved one for an 30 - 60 minute session. I understand the need to earn a living, even a comfortable one but its wrong to take advantage of someone like that.

All that aside I do believe that love never dies and your loved ones are around you all the time and watching over you. I have felt their reassuring presence during difficult times. My brother died in our home with us around him when he passed he was reaching out to someone's hand and my sister clasped it. And he said in a loving joyful voice "oh its you!! I'm so happy I could cry. Hey, I can walk theres no pain." and he died. I believe he was met by my Grandmother and relatives who passed before him. So I have a very deep belief in life continuing. ( my brother lost the use of his legs his last year of his illness)

At the end of the day it is a job. He has staff and an overwhelming amount of people that contact him daily. Why would he expect a staff to work for free? Its a business like anything else. Why would you think otherwise? I don't find this taking advantage of anyone, after all we have free will. Don't go.

A very good friend of mine lost her son while he slept, he was 16 years old. George has brought her comfort and answers that she sought for so long. I believe the majority of his work now is sessions for parents that have lost a child.
I pray I am never in that position but I assure you if I were I would be seeking a session with George.

Thank you for sharing that. How comforting to know your brother wasn't alone.

I believe what my faith teaches me, and consulting a medium isn't one of them. It's the exact opposite.

One time while in college DH's roommate went to some type of fortune teller who told the roommate that something bad had happened to one of his family members. The guy called his mom & dad to see if everything was okay. It was. He called his brother, his sister, his grandparents, and then finally his aunt who told him that she broke her finger the night before. The roommate hung up the phone and told my DH, "I knew it! I knew something bad had happened. That fortune teller was right."

Some people believe what they want to believe.

I didn't ask. I'm not trying to convince you. I honestly have no agenda in trying to change your mind.:confused3

All I have said is that I had a reading and it was accurate. Period.

The OP did ask. The title of the thread is "Are spiritual mediums for real or fake?" You stated your opinion and gave your story, and so did she. :confused3

Yes except it was directed at me and my words. Not a general reply. So I guess that entitles me to respond. No? Quote and all.

You quoted me and I responded back to your quote by quoting your response that was quoting my response.

It's an art, just like magic is an art. Some people are better at it than others. I can tell you to pick a country that starts with the letter D. Now choose an animal that starts with the same letter as the last name of the country. The animal you guessed is probablya kangaroo. People say, "wow, how'd you know that?" Some smarty pants will say koala, but those are far few and in between.

Once when I was a kid I went to a magic show where the magician cut a person in half on the stage with a saw. We were allowed to go up on stage to look at the body. It looked so real, but it wasn't. David Copperfield once made a building disappear -- or did he? It looked so real. I can have you choose a card from a deck, look at it, put the card back in the deck, mix up the cards, and then pick your card. Did I read your mind?

I didn't quote you first. Unless you have two screen names.

I had you confused with someone else. I do agree though that if someone goes in with an open mind and wants to believe what a medium is telling them is true, then they will believe. A well-versed reader will pick up on this and be able to run with it.

A while back my cousin "disappeared". The police investigated, found blood, no body... a year goes by. My Aunt and Uncle flew to where he was living at the time, hired the police departments "medium". She was able to go months later to the scene and read it. My Aunt and Uncle were totally dismayed when she claimed he was "in many different places". The medium eventually led the police to the many different places that his murderer put parts of his body. Do I believe, yes. Will I ever get a reading, NO!

Really? I'm sorry about the fate of your cousin. I'd love to see a link to the story if you have it. My good friend's DH is a detective. He said they never use psychics on their own because, but sometimes the family will request it and pay for it. The information is usually vague and doesn't pan out. If psychics could truly solve crimes, then this would save detectives lots of time and energy.

An article I found sums it up pretty well:
The Bottom Line
Except in the extremely rare case in which a psychic was actually involved in the crime or had apparently received secret information (as from a tip), psychics rarely lead police to concealed bodies or unknown assailants. Of course they may use their own logical skills, or they may benefit from luck or perseverance, but there is no credible scientific evidence that psychic power ever solved a crime. Instead, crimes are invariably solved by police who search crime scenes, interview witnesses, and perform all of the myriad tasks necessary to locate a missing person or to convict a criminal.
Common sense suggests that if psychics really had the powers they claim then they would long ago have identified the "Unabomber" or have discovered the remains of missing Teamster Jimmy Hoffa. If they cannot accomplish such missions, how much more telling is their collective inability to do so.

Since my mom goes to be around 8pm, I will have to look tomorrow though:rolleyes1.
