Are spiritual mediums for real or fake? Have you ever been to one?

I watched the Penn and Teller program on Mediums it was interesting how they got the answers out of people. They also sent someone to a show and what ended up on tv was much different to what they saw live. Many more misses than hits. Watch the show it shows the tricks they use to con people.

My great-grandmother told me that she once went to a fortune teller. The fortune teller told her that she saw her standing over a grave. The grave was of her daughter. It really upset her and she lived with "knowing" daughter was going to pass before her.

Well, her daughter did die before her. She died in the very early 60's, before I was born.

So was the fortune teller right or was she just lucky? Ultimately she passed from complications of having had scarlet fever earlier in life. Maybe my great-grandmother gave away some clue about that. :confused3

I would doubt that most were for real except for the documented cases where police have used them. I personally don't know what to think but it's interesting.

I think that many people do have some psychic ability. I'm sure that some have reached for the phone before it starts to ring or have known something was "wrong" and reacted to it. There's still much that we don't understand IMO.

The Pen and Teller answer. (yes they are fake)

If they were real, wouldn't they all be millionares?

you know, they could win the various lotteries, or "see" the stock market rise and fall...or..

oh right, that are "dedicated" to their "art" and therefore need YOUR money to continue.

Riiiiiiiigggghhhhhtttt!

I saw Sylvia Brown. Had a problem with a re occurring dream every night for 30 years. Saw her and cleared it up and have never had it again. I did this on the advice of my DH. Best advice he ever gave me.

Just to add that I had been to shrinks for this dream and hypnotized by others with no luck to get to the bottom of it. Two hrs after being with SB it all came to light and it was all understood.

I do and always have believed in what she and others have to say. Mind you that I am talking about reputable ones, not carnival ones. I have experienced this not only with myself as far as being an old soul but my one son also who at 4 started talking about his brother RED....it is a long story. But in this life time he has only a brother named Branden in which he replied and began to explain that his brother Red was before this life.

He to is an old soul. His story is very interesting on what he had to tell DH and I. But am to tired to type it all out tonight.

Totally found the wannabes. I am a cynic, I admit it, but I am the most laid back open minded person, I am always open to new things. If I ever found a real one, I'd be open to the concept, but I swear every new age wannabe who ever had one moment of dejavu is convinced they are channeling spirits of ancient indian princesses or norse warriors and that as soon as the can "open" my mind then I will be the recipent of so much wonder. I have actually met people who I thought were gifted in one way or another but they were so casual about it and never tried to use it, just every once in a while they'd have a hunch or know something without a way to know it. Now they I believe could have talent, but everyone pulling out thier cards at halloween, not so much.

I used to do readings but I stopped mostly because I found most people wanted me to BE the wackos you mentioned above. I used to go get readings too.. but I'm so tired of people trying to tell me my "native american name" or who I was in a past life. No thanks.

My personal opinion is that being intuitive should be as natural as breathing.. I'm pretty casual about it and accept it as part of who I am without thinking about it.... I had to work to refine it but most people don't breathe "correctly" either.. boy would I miss it if I didn't use it though!

(I hope that made sense)

Yep makes sense to me. It's like having artistic talent. You may never have taken lessons or learned technique, but you see them doodling on napkins, or they are always the person who snaps that one perfect picture that captures the light in just the right perspective. I look at other abilities the same way. They are just there, part of the person, and even if you don't "use" them they still find a way to show themselves.

Sorry, but those 2 things do not go together.

LOL I know they shouldn't but they do. Drives my friends crazy. Basically I'm always the first one to accept the possibility of a situation, but I never endorse it until I've investigated it to the nth degree. I don't accept anything at face value, but I'll argue the possibility of it.

Weird but true, I am a conumdrum.

and you can chose to believe me or not.

Once I traveled to Salem, MA. Walked into a psychic reading by myself (so no coversations were overheard) wearing street clothes.

Sat down. The guy says to me "you're in the mortgage business arent' you?"

Tell me how he got that from my "body cues". Granted.. some psychics work that way.. I wont' deny it.. like any other industry.. there are good ones and bad ones..

I believe that there are genuine spiritual mediums. I also believe there are more fakes than ones with a real gift.

I have had several readings with different spiritual mediums over the years and there is one that is spot on - eerily so. I've had 3 readings with her over the past 6 years and at each reading she told me things that eventually came to pass. And it wasn't general stuff like "you are going on a trip" or "you will meet someone new". It's specific stuff with names and details on what is going to happen. She also doesn't ask questions - she just asks your b-day and just starts telling you stuff.

I had a reading by George Anderson years ago. He told me things that nobody knew. I am absolutely positive that he is for real. I believe there are fakes and I believe there are those that are genuine.

George Anderson's manager/SO ripped him off for big $$$. I always thought HMMMM how could that be?? You didn't see it coming??

It is **incredibly** difficult to read for yourself. ... because we are emotionally invested in the outcome. You spend a good amount of time wondering "is this what I'm really seeing or what I'm afraid of or what I am hoping for"...

and it's also why I've not gotten the winning lotto numbers yet. :rotfl:

I don't know anything about that. All I can say with absolute conviction is I had a reading with the man and he was dead on accurate. The reading was over an hour long and I went in on a cancellation under someone else's name. My grandmother and many other relatives came through in my reading with messages that George could not possibly have known.

The thing with George is you are told to say yes or no and nothing else so I wasn't giving anything away. He named names, gave descriptions and gave me some extremely personal information that I had never told another person before.

"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible."

I think most are fakes.
I think some people are more intuitive than others.
And I think some things like this are evil or used by an evil power that existsout there. Misleading people. While a lot of it is for greed and is scamming people, I do believe in the power of good so there is also some type of power in evil. JMHO.

I am the same way

to answer the OP....I believe they could be true..but some are such fakes they give the whole group a bad name. Just like any other profession.

I'm inclined to believe there are some real ones, but think many are pure fakes. One that always got a chuckle from me was that wacko Derek Accora who used to be on Most Haunted. It's very difficult to take him seriously when he keeps talking to "Sam!"

On the other hand, there are some low-keyed, but apparently very talented people who assist police departments in investigations with amazing accuracy. There should be more of them.

If that is true, then whay do two "real" ones get together, give each other "readings", and each win the lottery, or clean up on the stock market?

Oh, yeah...I forgot...its not real!!!

I've had several readings, some were way off and some were very good. The "strangest" one I ever had was several years ago. My girlfriend and I each paid to have a reading by a psychic. I sat down and he took my hands and then dropped them and backed up his chair. Told me that he couldn't read for me because "you are far more psychic than anyone I know ....." I laughed and told him that I didn't do anything like that other than play with Tarot cards. He shook his head and told me that reading me would be "against the rules" or some such thing that made no sense to me. He said he'd be ripping me off and handed me back my money. We talked for a little while and he ended up reading my Tarot anyway. He got everything right including some things that no one knew about, but told me that I was feeding him all the information with my ability and he felt terribly guilty. He refused any payment at all. It was bizarre. He didn't try to sell me anything, convince me of anything ... it was just odd.

I have had several instances of intuition in my life, including knowing my father was going to have a stroke two days before he did (and he was in good health at the time). Now, I have a test for all psychics. If they know that I've been sick (cancer) since it doesn't show, I'll know they are for real. I do read Tarot cards for friends and for their friends, and don't charge anything, and sometimes, seem to hit on things that I couldn't know. And I don't know how that happens!

Oh, and get this .... my DD's boyfriend's mother read my coffee grounds. She told me that in three days I would get information that would startle and frighten me. (She had no idea that I had tests coming up) Sure enough, three days later I had a mammogram and for the first time ever in all of my tests, they called me back for second pictures. Talk about being startled and frightened! lol (But I'm fine!!!)

So yes, I believe. But I also believe there are many, many scammers out there.
