Are small add-ons worth it?

I have 200 pts at Saratoga Springs in a February use year. Would adding on 25 points at Boardwalk use year April be worth it? I'd like to eventually gradually add on enough points at Boardwalk to equal a full contract. Is having different use year confusing? With banking and borrowing, even a 25 point contract should help DH and I get a studio for our solo anniversary trips every couple of years.

Thoughts?

FYI DivaMom, DVD will not sell you a different UY unless you buy a full 150+ contract. If you want to buy a 25 point add-on at BWV, then it'll be February.

However, I think buying several small add-ons over a few years might be a good, affordable way to build up some BWV presence for you. Remember, that you can only use cash for add-ons between 25-49 pts, while over 50 you can finance (from 1 -10 yrs if you want). If you have already done financing thru DVD, you don't have to fill out the detailed parts of the financing form, just your names, employers and incomes; and it's pretty much an automatic approval. It might just pay to buy say a 75 point contract, finance it over 10 yrs, and just pre-pay the loan when you would otherwise have done a small add-on. That way you'll have all the points right away, and minimize the monthly outlay until you are ready to pay it down.

I think the bigger issue here is adding on small contracts via resale, which is what you would likely have to do. It is not as feasible to do small resale contracts because of the closing costs. Instead, I would look for a resale that has the total number of points you are looking for at BWV. You might have to do it with a home equity loan or something, but you would probably be money ahead.

Sorry to hijack another thread, but I'm looking to do a *small* addon to my 180 SSR Feb UY contract.

IF I purchased a 25point BWV (or wherever contract) from DVC would the contracts be combined (205pts), therefore I could book 11 months out at BWV using all 205pts?

They do on occasion have BWV points they've exercise ROFR on. We got 150 points at BW from DVC in August, only had to wait 5 days. The price of any of the sold out resorts from DVC is $89 per point.

No, that's incorrect. You'd only be able to use the 25 points (or up to 75 with banking and borrowing) at the 11 month window at BW. You'd have to wait until the 7 month window to combine points.

Thanks Pumpkinboy! You always give me the best info. I did not know that I could not buy a different use year through DVC. What if I bought a resale through the timeshare store? However, even if that's poosible, I think having different use years would prove too confusing for me in the end. I'll just have to keep on the lookout for more February UY opportunities!

Diane, we have added on at BWV both in February 04 (65 pts) and September 04 (60 more). We had to waitlist for the points in February, but they had plenty (600+) available for sale when we called at the end of August. We took advantage of the AP incentive and got 130 SSR points, and while we were on the phone, asked if there were any BWV points available, and just bought enough to top us up.

I am not sure what's available now. They were pretty aggressive with the ROFR in late summer, resulting in lots of points for sale when I was calling.
