Are sandals safe?

I’ve seen many threads about what good shoes to wear in the parks. I’ve seen some with comfy sandals as well. My thing is, is it safe to wear them? I ask because this weekend I went to the parks Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and walked a combined 20 miles. My feet and toes were understandably sore, and I wished I had flip flops to change into. I’m just scared of getting my feet injured. Has anyone had good success at wearing sandals? Is there a trick to wearing them? Sounds like an odd question, but when I visit the parks I tend to do a lot of walking and want to be as comfortable as possible.

They are perfectly safe. Plenty of people wear them every day. Not really sure what kind of "trick" you are looking for. If you have a pair that you know you can wear for several miles of walking, go for it!

I will say, in the summer, put sunscreen on the tops of your feet every day!

What do you think is going to happen? I typically wear Tevas sandals in the parks, as they're very supportive, have two sets of straps so they won't come off, and are waterproof, so it's no issue to get them wet in the rain or on a splash ride.

Never had any problems wearing them.

Bad wording on my part..I just see so many people wearing them, but am worried about tripping, getting stepped or rolled over ,etc. I have really good sandals to wear, just haven’t. I’m hoping in the warmer months to bring them out.

Mmmm, nope, in 20+ years going monthly or more to Disneyland I’ve never once injured my feet and all I wear are flip flops unless it is cold and raining. I like Olukai flip flops, they are very supportive and great in water, but you don’t really need to worry about summer rain at DL

Have you ever had anyone roll something over your feet in the parks, regardless of the shoe type? That's not impossible but it's an unlikely occurance. You're no more likely to trip in a well-fitting pair of sandals than you are in a well-fitting pair of any other shoes. If someone steps on your foot, it's not going to feel good regardless of what type of shoe you're wearing. I don't think this is really anything to worry about.

I must have bad luck because I’ve had a stroller go over my foot before lol. Thankfully I had tennis shoes on. But you’re right I won’t fret too much about this! Just trying to be more comfy in the parks while walking! Next time I go, sandals are coming with me!

I wear flip flops every time we go. Only one time did I lose my shoe between the platform and the car on Radiator Springs! Ha ha! They had to get my show and hand it to me when we got to the seat belt check area. :) my daughter loves to remind me to be careful when we go on that ride.

I have had a drunk woman crush my foot during Mardi Gras at Universal and a stroller clip my achilles tendon from the back. I do wear sandals, but I wear Keens, which have more coverage than most sandals as well as great toe protection for klutzes who trip, like me. Both times, I was feeling pain for the rest of my trip. However, I don't think tennis shoes would have helped. Steel toed boots maybe:sad2:

I always wear Merrill thong sandals and they save my feet -- have never had any problems with them. Nobody runs over my toes. There are no closed-toes shoes I could wear all day, but sometimes I do a shoe change to New Balance running shoes for the nighttime.

I personally don’t, because I have arthritis related foot issues. But my kids wear sandals every time, and they’ve never had an issue.

My feet wouldn't survive in flip-flops for a day in the parks.
I start the day in one pair of shoes and mid day switch to a second pair. Along with new socks each time I change shoes.
I carry flip-flops in my backpack to change into for water rides.

If your feet are use to them go for it.

I wear a mix of different sandals in the parks with no issues. I usually like my birkenstocks or keen sandals for days with a lot of walking. But I do wear my teva mush flip flops sometimes too. OR my Chacos. It just depends. If we take a hotel break mid day I usually switch out my shoes, for a few different reasons but I don't always.

I wear UnderArmour flips unless it's pouring rain (so, like, always). Yes, I've been bumped and had my toes run over by strollers a few times but never had a serious injury. I think it's all about being aware of the crowd and sort of watching your feet and your projected path.

I wear sandals and flip flops. There have been several times when someone has stepped on my flip flop when I have been walking because they are too close behind me. I've had other times where someone has pushed a stroller into the back of my foot. Since I am just more comfortable wearing those types of shoes, I keep doing it. I haven't had any blood or anything at this point.

I love Keens, too. Whisper are my favorite. They are great for toe coverage, support, and they quick dry! I don’t like to wear flip flops in the park...my son is always stepping on the back...ouch!

I've also worn flip flops to the park, but now I tend to either where mesh topped sneakers (like the kind for walking in water) or Tevas that cover the toes and heels. Like others have mentioned, I've had my toes stepped on and/or run over by strollers and heels hit by strollers (those hurt!). While I don't know that it actually makes a difference, I'd rather have a little protection than none at all.
