Are Resort pools "salt water" pools?

A friend of mine just told me that about the pools the other day. I didn't think that they were.....we may change our home pool over to a salt water pool since I didn't even notice a difference at the Resort (specifically the CR and BLT pools). I hear they're easier to maintain....

Nope.they are treated with bromine.
I have a saltwater pool at home.It is easier to maintain and easier on the eyes.It just uses Sodium Chloride( salt) to generate chlorine rather than using straight chlorine.I add roughly a 50lb bag of pool salt ( 13,000 gallon pool) at the beginning of the season and simply adjust the levels by changing the generator output.I generally never need to add more salt in a season unless I lose water.Still need to add other chemicals (ph increase, decrease ,stabilizer etc) to balance water.

Dont know about the resort pools but we are in the process of building a pool and we are doing a salt system on ours. My husband says they are so much easier to maintain and he has infact changed over a few of our friends pool to a salt system for them.

Our pool is a salt water pool and we LOVE it!!!! We (DD & I) are very sensitive (borderline allergic) to standard chlorine systems. We had to refill our pool this year so we had to use several bags of salt but so far that is the ONLY thing we've had to use this year. I take water to the pool store (it's right around the corner from us) for more accurate testing and it has been near perfect thus far. Once we had to turn the system up to 'super chlorinate' for 24 hrs but that fixed the problem. I keep asking the pool store owner if he is sure and he says he'd be happy to sell me chemicals I don't really need! LOL

this is my 7th year with my salt water pool.They became really popular around 4-5 yrs ago.When I got mine they were relatively new and hard to find

Going on 6 years with a salt water pool, and we love it. There are pros and cons though...we have not had any issues with keeping our water clear, and it is easy to maintain. But salt water can also be harder on your equipment...I am on my 4th motor for the pump...we get 2 years out of a motor and they die. Overall I think salt water is the way to go...just beware there are some negatives.

Salt pools are chlorine pools. A salt chlorine generator uses sodium (salt) added directly to the pool water and makes sodium hypochlorite (liquid chlorine). Salt water pools feels better since the salinity of the water is closer to matching the salinity of our bodies and skin. The dilution ratio of a salt water pool is about 1/10 that of sea water so it's not exactly like swimming at the beach.

Thanks everybody for your help! Changing our pool over to salt water is something to maybe think about more.....currently it's so easy keeping our pool on par so not sure I want to fix what's not broken.

After research I understand that salt water pools are chlorinated via sodium chloride.....good to know!

I think SAB may be what my friend was referring to. Thx! Can anyone else confirm this? Maybe I need to make a call to Disney.....not sure if reservations would know tho?

I didn't think SAB was a salt water pool, just bromine.

I wonder why they would use bromine over chlorine? Chlorine seems to be the standard, I do hear that bromine is more stable at higher temps which is why it is used in portable hot tubs, but why in the whole pool?

Well we were told that if you have people going back and forth from pool to hot tub and vice versa...it's better to have them on the same system. And it's easier to maintain on heated pools. Lastly, People who have an allergy to chlorine are 'usually okay' to swim in bromine (first hand experience).
We did bromine for several years and it was fairly easy and went well but then when we started having problems, boy was it a NIGHTMARE!!! We drained the pool and switched to a salt system. NO regrets whatsoever!!

Don't know if this helps...
We visited BC and SAB in 04, 06, 08.... Our pool was finished July 2007...

(No - it doesn't look QUITE like SAB)

(More like the pool at the Poly)

Hubs had asked a lot of questions during one or two of those visits...

so I just asked him...he says SAB IS a Salt pool...That he is 100% sure (That is what he is saying)
