Are pre-packaged "snack foods" allowed on airplanes?

With the intention of saving a few $$$$'s I would like to pack some single packaged snacks for the trip such as oreo's and chips etc... Does anyone know if I can put these in a duffle bag and check it in on to the plane. This wouldn't be our carry on. I will also pack a collapsable cooler and towls in the same bag.

I was just wondering if there were any restrictions on foods like this. How about brining them into the park (one or two snacks a fanny pack)? :confused3

One more question..... Has anyone ever brought in a six pack of bottled water in one of those collapsable coolers into the parks?

Thanks for your help in advance!!!!!

Yes you can bring whatever kinds of snacks you want on the airplaine, we usually bring a big bag of doritos, pretzels, cookies, gum candy, crackers etc. and we put them on our carry on bag, we have been doing this for the past 5 years and never ONCE has anyone said anything. the stewardess the last time asked us if she could have a piece of our candy. so bring what ever you want.
Enjoy your trip.

I've never had a problem packing some snacks. Just remember that the luggage area may not be pressurized (so don't pack soda), and that the luggage handlers are not careful with stuff (so chips might not be a great idea, unless you like crumbs :) ) I usually pack the cheese and breadstick things, animal crackers, and kool aid mix, and it works fine.

I don't know if there's any offficial rule about bringing stuff into the parks, but usually DH and I each bring a water bottle and some granola bars. No one's ever said we couldn't do it. I'm not sure about lugging a cooler around with me. Usually it's whatever we can fit in our backpack.

Have a great trip!

I always make "treat bags" for my girls to keep them occupied on the flights. I buy Disney party goodie bags and fill them with goldfish crackers, chewy candy for ear pressure, crayons, stickers, individually packed wet wipes, model clay, post it notes, etc. I always include at least 4 or 5 snack-type things per bag. The flight attendants even reach for the trash when the girls are done.

I think in this day and age of the cutbacks in airplane "extras," they expect that you are going to bring food and maybe even drinks with you because some flights are too long not to eat anything and people like me who get motion sick need to eat a little bit at a time on the flight to keep from getting sick.

I was surprised to see somewhere on the Disney website the other day specifically that you can take water and snacks into the park with you. I was surprised to see it, although we have always had a couple of water in the girls' diaper bags or strollers every time we have gone.

I don't think the OP was talking about bring food onto the plane to eat on the plane. I think she was asking about checking an extra piece of baggage filled with food that she can use in the hotels/parks.

There shouldn't be any problem with this. Just make sure that you put drinks into a plastic bag so that if one explodes you won't get the entire contents of your bag sticky.

WDW has no problem with bringing snacks into the park.

I don't think there's any problem with it...my only concern would be that since the bags are always tossed around and you don't know if any other luggage will be piling on top of it or not, it might wind up crushed. I would personally bring it on as a carryon bag to avoid it being crushed to pieces.

Last year we had six people going and we were staying in a 2 bedroom DVC resort. Since we had the availability of taking an additional suitcase, we packed a small suitcase filled with dry foods and snacks. I know some people do not recommend this as it may get opened but we had no problem whatsoever. The suitcase was fine when it got to our room (ME) and nothing was missing. It was great!! I will say that I probably over packed on the snacks. We took snacks into the park everyday (at least I took snacks in my backpack) but we rarely ate them!! The DS's found stands that sold McD fries and that was it for them! We brought alot of that stuff home. Of course we did use the coffee, the pancake batter, etc. - oh and the single packs of wash detergent!!

We've carried on and checked luggage with bottled water, snack foods, and other types of food. As someone else said, wrap the water (i've had a leak!).

We brought a small softside cooler into the park with bottled water, juice for my dd, and soda for dh. We had it in the bottom of the stroller, but had to take it out and open it at security and no one said a thing.

As long as it it isn't explosive or fireworks, they don't care what you check.

We have taken snacks both to DL and Hawaii. We brought stuff like peanut butter and juice boxes and dried fruit, cereal, etc when we went to Hawaii - food there is sooo expensive. We also took small cereal boxes, fruit snacks, cracker type snacks, juice boxes ( a small case), must of had some other stuff to DL last June. Have not had any problems with it - we overpacked stuff like fruit snacks, but used all the cereals and juice boxes... nice thing was we had an empty duffel bag to take home stuff! :)

I was told pretty much security is looking for weapons and glass - they will make you empty your bottles into a paper cup.. thats about it.

I always figure, the more you bring to the airport, the more you have to carry through the entire airport. It's hard enough to keep track of my wallet adn keys. The last thing I want to bother with is $2 leaky water bottles rolling everywhere, and cookie packages getting smashed. I sometimes bring one bottle of water with me, but that's my limit.

Airports are one of the few times I'll make an exception and head to a place like McD's for inexpensive food near my gate.

As far as the Disney parks go, bringing in bottled water is worthwhile, so long as you don't have to carry it all day. If so, limit your stash to one bottle and refill it. Disney will give you free ice water at any drink station. If you have a stroller then it's easier. It is VERY important to stay hydrated at WDW!

Here's another tip:
The lines for bag checks can be a hassle (every minute you lose getting into the parks is adds to your wait time at the attractions, sometimes even a few minutes make a big difference!).
We minimize what we carry down to what fits in our pockets - room key, cash, credit cards, camera. It helps to wear cargo shorts (or shorts/pants with extra button down/velcro pockets on the thigh).
If we have astroller, then we limit the stroller cargo to water and jackets. We put the water into clear Ziploc gallon bags (4 bottles MAX.) Before we board the bus - we wear the jackets or put the jackets and water into one large plastic Disney shopping bag. If the bag search line is long, we dump the contents of the shopping bag into the bottom bin of the stroller so that everything is easily visible. Voila! We can bypass the bag search line since nothing is in a bag.

Another tip: you can have water shipped. Much easier than carrying it through the airport.

We like to bring snacks with us, and things we can't find easily once there.
We tend to get searched, especially if we are carrying peanut butter.

Either the checked bag its in, or the carry on bag thru security.
Something about peaunut butter.

We have never had a problem packing food in the suitcases.
We tend to not bring liquid items, in the suitcases unless we are carrying on the plane. We don't want to end up with a big wet mess.

If we bring granoala bars, or chip like items. We have some plastic ware we put them in to avoid them getting smashed. We also pack extra zip lock bags to put chips, gold fish type items in an easy to eat package. We usually just buy the regular size bags.

I always bring food into the parks with me, low blood sugar. I've never had problems. Apples, sandwiches (get the sandwich size plastic container, saves the sandwhich from getting smushed), and other varieties of snacks. I'm good for eating my snack because i prefer them to more fast food oriented items in the parks. My husband might eat some of the snacks, especially during the wait times before the parades, or firework shows.

We packed a large suitcase full of food...my boys are picky eaters, so I wanted to make sure they had something to eat- Sometimes because of the heat..they weren't really hungry when we were out.

I packed the waterbottles in large ziplocks...as well as all the snacks (got rid of the boxes). It was really heavy (but we checked our luggage at the sidewalk in boston...then ME delivered it to the room). I would recommend putting the snacks in plastic containers maybe the disposible ziplocs? Our ritz crackers were crushed like powder.

We used the suitcase for dirty laundry on the way home.

You are "allowed" to check food, but last I knew, the airlines were advising against it because food items can register as possible explosives. Chocolate often does this. Your bag will be more likely to be searched if there is food in it.

I once saw an episode of "Airline" - the Southwest reality show - where a lady tried to bring a cooler full of leaky raw chicken on the plane. She couldn't understand why other people might not want raw chicken juice leaked onto their luggage. She thought wouldn't be able to find edible chicken in the place she was going (domestic).

DH once saw a suitcase of (smoked?) salmon at the airport conveyor. Apparently the suitcase had opened up. Despite the value of contents, the owner knew better than to claim it, since it was an illegal import. So the suitcase of fish kept going round the luggage conveyor, while customs watched from a distance.

This is apparently also true because the bomb-sniffing dogs pick up on the food therein...

I shipped a box of snacks/juice boxes/sunscreen etc to the resort ahead of time, instead of checking it at the airport. One less thing to haul around, and no security issues. My big box weighed about 21-22 pounds, and cost $17 to ship UPS ground. I sent it 9 days before we left (Thursday the 13th) and it arrived at hte resort on Tuesday the 18th. We arrived on Saturday April 22nd and after we checked in, bell services brought it to our room.

worth every penny.
