Hi Everyone!

This might sound silly, living in Orlando, but I haven't been to Disney in years. I know Universal Studios does not allow power wheelchairs on any ride.. I was wondering if Disney had the same policy?

Thanks in advanced :sunny:

Hi and welcome to both DisBoards and disABILTIES!

To start off with, I would suggest that you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The third item down is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. It will also provide a lot of links, you will be wanting the Guide for Guests with Disabilities.

As a general rule if you are in a pwer cvhair with approximately the same "footprint" as a standard wheelchair you will be allowed. If you are in an ECV you will have to transfer.

We have had a powerchair on One fish Two fish before. When did they start to ban powerchairs and how can they do that and not be in violation of the ADA?

I don't know when it started at Universal, it has been a while. I remember reading posts from people maybe 3 years ago who had waited in line and when they got to boarding were told they could not ride at some Universal attractions.
Here's what it says on their Guest Service webpage:
NOTE: We apologize, but due to their dramatic motion, none of the ride vehicles at Universal Orlando will accommodate Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV's) or electric wheelchairs. At those rides which can accommodate standard wheelchairs, guests may transfer from their ECV or electric wheelchair into a standard wheelchair, which can be provided at each location.
Here's a link to a pdf file of their Rider's Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. The same information is repeated there. In the specific 'keys' to symbols in that book, they define the wheelchair symbol as meaning
"Guest may remain in their standard wheelchair throughout
the attraction experience (This does not apply to Electric
Convenience Vehicles and most electric wheelchairs at any
of the ride attractions)."
One Fish, Two Fish has the wheelchair symbol, so according to the symbol, some electric wheelchairs may be able to go on that attraciton (but most could not).

They would not be in violation of the ADA because there are general requirements in the ADA rules/guidelines for Amusement Parks. There is not a specific requirement that attractions be power wheelchair accessible, just that they have certain accessibility features/measurements.

Thanks everyone!! Last time I went was in January and I actually was told by the worker while I was entering the ride for "One fish Two fish" I would need to transfer to a manuel chair.
