Or is there certain spots you don't get wet, or is it that it's all luck whether or not you get wet?

***how wet do you get on this?

Thanks:)

I have yet to find that magical spot where you don't get wet on GRR. If you happend to find it, let me know!

It all depends on the weight of your raft and distribution of the weight of your raft, how your raft is positioned, and where you sit. When I was there in September I wore a poncho and my pants STILL got wet.

I always carry an extra pair of socks, underwear and shorts/pants with me, unless I know that I will be going back to a hotel right after I ride it to change. If need be, the bathroom right behind GRR on your way towards Ariel, there is a hand dryer that can be convienenty used as a clothes dryer (been there, done that!).

Have fun and try to stay dry!

Thanks. We may save that for the last ride before heading back to the DL hotel!

Depends on what time of year you go too...If it's hot out, getting drenched feels great and then you dry pretty quickly.

I have had times where I was totally soaked (hair and everything) and times where I was barely sprayed. It's pure luck.

I never wear a poncho...I like to get wet :)

I've found that if you're a lighter person, you should sit opposite of where most of the weight is, for both GRR and KRR in AK. My daughters and I are all relatively small people, and every time we've ridden either ride we have sat just the 3 of us on one side of the raft opposite larger folks (mostly men who outweigh us by a good 70-100lbs each) and we have never gotten completely soaked, although we do get splashed quite a bit. Gravity usually takes effect when going over the falls and the heavier side goes down first with a wall of water splashing over the side and onto the occupants of that side when you land.

This is not guaranteed, just what I've observed, so if you get completely soaked don't blame me!

I've always found ponchos to be slightly silly. If I didn't want to get wet at all I wouldn't go on a water ride. We usually wear dark colored shorts or jeans and dark colored tops so as to not have a see-through issue, and we tend to dry off very quickly walking around in the sun. I don't do water rides in the evening, because I don't like to be cold.

If it's saemi-cold, I put ponchos on my girls. Us adults never wear ponchos (and neither do the girls if it's warm enough). We have gotten soaked, but only when it's warm and the have in running in super-wet mode. You will get wet, though!

Last time, no one in our boat got drenched, but my feet did! Our friends propped their feet up and stayed dry. Next time, I'm bringing a pair of flip flops to put on before I ride- I got really bad blisters from walking around in wet socks and shoes! I think ponchos on water rides are lame, myself. Live a little!

I've got a little guy that barely makes the height requirement, that's why I go with a poncho. After the first time my pants were entirely soaked through, I decided: no more for me without a poncho. I was really unhappy for an hour after SM one day. Our shoes can get really nasty if they get sopped too, hence the need for flip flops.

Also, I REALLY like getting booed in line:banana: (There is always some stranger that wan't our ponchos too when we're done.)

Its always luck whether you get drenched or not. However, here are my experiences.

Those sitting next to the enter/exit step often get very wet. Waves will crash right on thru the openings drenching those sitting next to them.

Whomever ends up going down the first drop backwards has an excellent chance of getting soaked as the splash comes up and over them. Not much you can do about this as its mostly luck.

Keep your feet off the floor of the raft except during the 2nd drop. In this case put your foot over the drains in the bottom of the raft. If you don't, water can shoot up thru these and soak your legs and shoes.

I didn't ride the ride last year during our visit (sleeping grandaughter/stroller duty) but I watched the rideers for almost an hour and observed a majority of wet people. The random geysers were the worst and they had no plan or patern to them, but if they shoot and you are there you will get very wet ! Have fun and enjoy it, wish I were there right now !!!

I think they have a sign: "You will get wet. You may get soaked." Believe it. As silly as it may look we always have ponchos in our backpack just for this ride and Splash Mountain.

If you do get wet and it is a warm day, walk over to the Silly Symphony Swings. A couple times around and you'll be almost dry.

Oh I absolutely don't begrudge anyone else ponchos, especially with munchkins. We rode Kali in February and there was the cutest little girl wearing an oversized poncho with us in line, she was soooo cute! Have you actually been booed for wearing a poncho? That's crazy!

We've always been absolutely soaked. We either wear ponchos, or as we usually stay at DLH, we will do it right before going back to the hotel so we can stop by the room and change clothes.

Yes, but it was good-natured razzing (they were smiling). At least that's how we took it:cool1:

I've got the GRR curse. Every time I ride on it, I manage to get completely drenched from top to bottom, while DH and DS8 and DS9 barely get wet:laughing::laughing::laughing:. Because of this I tend to get paranoid about my camera, and have to mummify it before getting on it, so it doesn't get drenched too.:upsidedow

I wear a poncho because you not only get wet you get SOAKED! All the way down to your underwear. I don't like walking around in wet clothes particularly wet pants and underwear, it starts to chafe after a while and that just sucks.

For me a poncho is mandatory! I always get drenched....miserable, soaked through every layer of clothing, not drying out for much longer than I care for drenched. :rotfl: but it is a great ride so I'll wear it in order to enjoy it. No one else that I have ever gone with has worn a poncho though & they have been okay with the outcome. AND they ride it over & over again! :)

This is SOOO true! The drain holes really got me good last trip!!! I was all thinking I came out pretty unscathed......you know a little splash here and there that caught my back.....until the drains got the last laugh. Totally drenched my lap!! LOL And then the geyser lined up just right and totally got only me!! My family was howling!! It was a nice warm day, so it felt good, but it was a good 3 - 4 hours before I could say I was offically dry!:goodvibes Still, loved it!

I have also heard rumors that the parks fill up GRR and Splash Mtn with extra water during the hot months (and less so during colder months). Not sure about this, but it did seem like it.

We like to finish our day out at this ride on some nights. The ride is usually walk on and you can go several times in a row. Doing it at night is a whole new experience!! You can sometimes catch glimpes of WOC when you are going up the lift, which was neat to see!

I have to admit that I've still never done this ride! We usually go in October and we're usually not warm enough where we want to get wet and cool off. Last year DD talked us into going on Splash Mountain and I got soaked! It was fun though. This year we're going in September so I'm crossing my fingers for super warm weather so I can talk at least a few in our group into riding with me for the first time!

Hmmm I've never worn a poncho on this ride before. It's usually hot enough that i WELCOME the cool down. Like others have said, it's all luck of the draw. I've gotten "wet" every single time I've ridden GRR. but I've been SOAKED a few times. A poncho would save you if you were just a little wet but if you were the guy with water up over the top and sides dumping on you, imnot sure it'd do much good.

I would NEVER wear anything but flip flops/water proof shoes on this ride. Roll up long pant legs and definitely agree with the foot over the drain advice. Been there, done that. I try to bring spare shorts. Agree with PP, chaffing SUCKS.
