That's a tax for the gas.I already pay a per mile tax, it's called the gas tax. I haven't heard about it yet in Maryland, but it's only a matter of time.
Weird. I watch NC news daily, follow online news for the area, live in the middle of politics, and haven't heard this. It will be interesting. Do you have a link? Because if it "keeps coming up" it must be somewhere that I'm not hearing about.
That's a tax for the gas.
This is a tax for the environment.
Our news said it was for the environment. Here they are saying the tax is for the roads. They said gas tax is not bringing in enough money.
Ohio is. Well, they said on the news that Ohio is. I don't know if that's true.
Not only will we be taxed per mile, but the cost of the cars will go up because they're going to have to put little spy gadgets in them so that the government can read how many miles we're going.
And we'll have to pay people to go to meeting for this crap and administrate it and police it all.![]()
Makes me ill.
As if you didn't know, I'm against the tax. I'm always against the tax - I don't even need to hear the reasons. It's a given. BUT...It's just a matter of time until this will replace a gas tax because of increased fuel efficient mandated by the federal gubment. Add in alternative energy sources such as electric and you'll definitely have to have a use tax instead of a consumption tax.
But not both. Both is dumb and double dipping.
LOL, the government won't call them little spy gadgets. They'll come up with a much more innocent name. Maybe they'll put happy faces and trees on the covers, too. That'd be a nice touch.Good gosh, that sounds like 1984! Politicians actually voted to put electronic spies in cars?
Actually, many cars already have a little gadget that can verify mileage. OnStar from GM can do that easily, and in fact, there is an insurance offer for a discount for people who don't drive much, and it is verified by OnStar.
I am fine with anything that is your choice; I do have a problem with a mandated "spy" in my vehicle. I have always gotten the low-mileage insurance deduction from GEICO based on my word; they have never asked for verification through a third party, but I can see how that would be reasonable.

But they have to force the car manufacturers to put them in there. If there is no little spy gadget, there is no way for them to keep track of how far we drive.
