Are OKW Accessible Grand Villas a booking category or just a room request?

I know Old Key West only has 3 "accessible" Grand Villas. (Two in building 63, which has an elevator; and one in building 48, which is the only GV with a ground floor entrance).

Are these accessible GVs a separate booking category, or something I can just request as a room request?

My mother finds out in a few weeks if she needs a knee replacement, so an electric scooter or wheelchair may be in the cards depending on the timing of it all for our August 2024 trip.

We currently have a reservation already for a GV, renting points from a DVC owner.

They are booked as HA…it is not a request.

I wish your mom a successful operation. I had bilateral knees done in 2015, and they work very well!

Bobbi's right. My family and I stayed in one in building 63 several months ago. The location and view were perfect. And what's nice with the few OKW elevators is how large they are. My ECV and I, my granddaughter and her stroller, DS and DDIL, and one DGD fit easily, so just DH and DGD#2 went down the stairs. It was an easy walk from the Peninsular Road bus stop-we wanted to get on there, the first bus stop, rather than at the HH, the last stop. Great view of the golfers too.

Our DVC renter was able to modify our res to one of the HA ones, so we are prepared. If it's not a full knee replacement, it's going to at least be some other type of surgery, so we figured it's better safe than sorry with such a long stay. I'm requesting building 63 as well; that location is too good to pass up.

TY all for the quick answers <3

Book it NOW, they disappear in a hurry. I booked one for thanksgiving week a couple of years ago, and walked the reservation for a month prior, at 12 months out. She will be limited to the first floor of the villa, living room, kitchen, lkaundry room and master suite. The other bedrooms are accessed by stairs inside hte unit only.

To book an accessible unit check the box on the search page that says: Accessible Rooms, or they won't show.

Yes, I never saw the upstairs. Also, the only accessible bathroom is the one off the Master Bedroom. There's also a guest bathroom on the first floor, with a shower, but that's not HA.
