We are usually stay-on-the-ship people at Nassau (and most of the time, really). We were there in early May for the first time since the new port area was completed and decided to get off and walk around. Our experience, inside that new port area, was pleasant. We walked to check out the big screen and past there where all the colorful huts were. We didn't particuarly shop, we were just looking as we walked to the other end where the tour boats are. No one bugged us, it was nice. Very different feel, to me, from previous stops there. I do not recall a lot of benches, but it would be a nice area to just sit and enjoy the surroundings. There were several benches at the end by the tour boat area and we sat there for a while just watching.View attachment 868229View attachment 868228View attachment 868230
We like Nassau because we like Atlantis. The island itself also does not smell like urine at the port.

Good for by you don’t lower your standards and be upset. I’d do the same thing right now.
Well, I'm not upset anymore because I changed the cruise rather than being upset, worrying, feeling disappointed, or making big efforts to manage expectations way down after spending thousands of dollars.

Maintaining my standards, absolutely.

That's changed. Disney used to allow you to change the date even within the cancellation period. Other cruise lines don't allow it...I guess Disney gave into industry pressure.
Disney seems to be all about grasping for every dollar they can hold onto, now.

I’ve never been on a cruise but would like to soon. The first one will definitely not be Disney because of cost and lack of casino.

So, with that in mind I think Lookout Cay looks beautiful. I enjoy walking and it looks like a great place to get some walking in. The nature trail looks real good.

I’m about the same as I was before the previews. I don’t have anything booked for Lighthouse right now anyway because I have Wish and Treasure trips already on the books. I also don’t do inaugurals for anything because there are always hiccups. I’m fully confident Disney will address the flies. The pier length doesn’t bother me but I could see those with mobility issues being less than pleased, but if it means there’s thriving coral ecosystems to see snorkeling then I’m good with it.

Disney didn't used to penalize you for CHANGING after final payment. Cancelling, yes. But not changing.

Not thrilled they have apparently given into industry pressure since other lines haven't allowed it.
Other than some lenient covid era policies around changing dates, this has been the policy as long as I can remember.

At this point I have mixed feelings, however my next cruise at the end of July has so many new ports and also Castaway in addition to Lookout Cay so it's one of many reasons we chose the cruise. I'm hoping that they solve the fly problem by then. It sounds like they are already taking steps in that direction. I'm not excited about the walk, but understand the reason for it. I will be getting off as early as I can because a lounger near the water is important to me. The beach itself and water look amazing! I'm hoping I can get some great pictures!

I was so exciting about the new island, and couldn't wait to watch the You tube videos--and oh my gosh, the flies! I don't think I can ever get that picture out of my mind. Also how disappointing to not be ready and have the natural path/hiking open. With slight mobility issues, the pier was a bit of a turn off, but the flies, flies, flies...yuck.

Maybe already addressed about the fly situation. Some say that it was not expected and that Disney was caught by surprise and that they will fix it.

My issue with this:
Hasn't Disney been working on this island for quite some time?
There must have been dozens of workers on the island getting everything ready. Those people needed to be fed, I am going to assume they ate onsite. I don't think they went to the nearest village to have lunch and then go back. Then the flies should have been there as well? Or is that a silly thought?

And even if it is just something seasonal, then the people who live there should have been able to tell Disney about this and share knowledge how the locals handle the flies?

I feel no different about Lookout than I did before. I can't say I looked at the concept pictures super closely when they were released a while back, but I do remember them emphasizing the environmental aspects. We just did a beach trip here on the mainland and after pack muling the tent, chairs, food, toys, and the kitchen sink in ourselves, this sounds lovely lol.

If we keep our Alaska cruise for next year, I'm thinking we'll book a cruise to here and Castaway sometime in 2026.

I've been cruising Disney since 2011 and have never been able to change dates in the cancellation period. The only change I know of is the cancellation period has gotten longer. I have no idea what went on before 2011

I'm excited, but I will wait until next year. I think a lot of the complaints about the walk and the sun will dissipate when the weather cools off. I expect they will fix they fly problem. I prefer cruising from in Caribbean and Bahamas from October through May.

Sorry for misunderstanding everyone who in the past has said "Use the word change when you call and not cancel". They certainly made it sound like you could do that at any point.

That helps with things like not losing your placeholder discount when changing ship and sail date before PIF. For example, yesterday I also changed our March cruise to one that will not visit Lookout Cay, and I was careful to keep my discount. But it cannot be used to avoid cancellation fees past PIF.
