Are my kids going to be giants?

I have noticed on some of these threads where people talk about how big their kids are. On one someone had an 8 and a 6 year old who weighed around 44 pounds. Is this now the norm or are my kids just giants? I just weighed the 3(soon to be 4) year old and she is 50 pounds! :scared1: She is also about 43 inches tall. The 2 year old(just turned 2) is 38 pounds and 39 inches tall. They have both always been in the larger percentile but neither have ever had the rolls of baby fat and they are very active. They don't eat a lot of junk or ever drink soda and seem to be really healthy. I guess they are just going to be big people. :confused3 I have been assuming both of them will be riding most rides on our trip because they will be big enough. Do you think they won't be mature enough, though? The ones I'm thinking about are Soarin, Kali River, BTM, and Splash Mt. and maybe Test Track. They both are daredevils if that makes a difference.

I'm in a similar boat as you. My 4 year old dd is 46' tall and weighs 45. She was able to ride whatever she wanted. We didn't attempt Soarin', but she rode Kali River Rapids, Splash Mtn and BTM. She loved them. I'm not sure a 2 year old, even with meeting height requirements, would enjoy BTM.

I've got a giant, too...measured 39" and 35 pounds naked at his 2 year pediatrician appointment. He also doesn't eat ANY junk food and is very active. But, daddy is 6'5" and I'm >5'8", so it's kinda what I expected.

DH and I don't think that he is ready for the height restricted rides when we go to Disney in a few weeks, even though he will be tall enough. It really has to be what you feel comfortable with. I figure there is plenty of time for him to enjoy those in future visits and that this is the time to enjoy Fantasyland, etc. It also worries me a little that WDW has a 3-year (not enforced, but still suggested) age requirement for Barnstormer, which is a lot tamer than the 40" restricted rides. I'm just not sure what kind of strain the rides might put on his body. Maybe I should have asked his pediatrician or my chiropractor. We will wait until he is at least 3, probably older. (We are going to let him ride Barnstormer this time.)

Have you been on those rides before? I would definitely go on them before letting your kids try them, but then you need to decide what it best for your family. Maybe it's just easy for me to keep DS off them because there isn't an older sibling wanting to ride them and he has no idea that they exist. And he just LOVES all the Fantasyland and other non-restricted rides, so it's not really a sacrifice.

My girls are peanuts. They are both tall, but my poor DD's legs are the same diameter as her arms. (almost) She will be six and just broke the 40 pound mark.

My step daughter is 8, she weighs 67 pounds. She is one of the tallest girls in her class. She is the most muscular little girl I've ever seen. She's a skinny minny, but very solid. She was RECRUITED to play pee-wee softball when she was in the first grade! she's much more of a soccer player though.

My step son just turned five and he weighs 47 pounds. This kid is a string bean. He's still in 4T clothes...they are too short for him as pants though, so we have to get him 5T jeans and belt them like crazy.

There are a lot more hormones in foods now than there used to be. Kids are growing and developing a lot faster than in the past. :confused3 Just so long as they are happy and healthy!

I can't blame my kids' size on that though. We eat mostly organic, hormone-free meats and dairy and a lot of fruits and veggies.:confused3 I think I'll have to blame DH for this. He's not huge by any means(about 5' 11" and around 180 pounds) but his mom and dad are both over 6' tall and both of them weigh over 200 I'm sure.

I think my kids are relatively small, although they are both at the 50th percentile every year. DD will be 6 in July and is 43 pounds, 45 inches. DS3 is 33 pounds and I can't remember his most current height. The thing that makes them stand out from their friends are their tiny feet! DD wears an 11 and DS wears a 7.5. DH and I are both average height and shoe size, we'll see what happens!

My oldest dd was always about average for her age in height and weight, as a baby was son was a "pork chop"-:rotfl2: ...but he was average height and became average weight as a toddler, my youngest dd was a peanut...she was 17 1/2 lb at 1 and at the ages of your kids she was 21(2 yrs) and 24 lbs at 3....she was also abnormally short and had extremely tiny feet..she is now 11 1/2 and still one of the smallest ones, but has pretty much caught up...btw, i was always "tall" for my age, i remember in gr 6 i HAD to be centre in basketball due to my height, well, i am scraping 5 ft 4 inches....hehehe....all kids grow at such different rates and different times.....sounds like they will get to have fun though if they can get on a lot of the rides...my youngest would have tried anything, but she was so small we went to an amusement park when she was 5 and she was no where near the height she needed to be, i am sure she didnt hit it til at least 7 or 8....

DS isn't heavy, but he is TALL, and has been over the 40" mark since he was 22 mos. (He's 9 now, 5' tall and 72# -- he's a pole bean.) We have always let him make the decision about what he wants to ride once he's tall enough.

He chose to go for it on the coasters and loved them, but gave Splash Mtn. about an extra 6 months, and TOT an extra 2 years (it was the name that got to him on that one; if it had Terror in it that couldn't be good, right?) HM was actually the one he waited longest on; he really didn't get to the point of understanding that it was really all fake until about a year ago. He is still not too crazy about Dinosoar -- too much jumps out at you.

With younger kids, the g-forces are not the problem, as their smaller size lets them deal with them more easily than an adult can. I'd say that the biggest issue for most little guys tends more to be darkness, loud sounds, and "scary" theming (which they may perceive very differently than you do.)

I think you might be talking about my boys. They are 6 and 8 and weigh 44 pounds and the 8 year old is about 49" and the six year old is 48". I've hads lot of ppl ask if they are twins even though they are almost 2 years apart. My 6 year old is tall for his age. He's the tallest in his kindergarten class. His dr said he will probably be about 6' 2". My oldest is one of the shortest in his 2nd grade class. They are both too skinny but they love to eat.

Your kids sound fine and normal to me. My oldest is about to turn six and while he only weighs around 48 lbs. he is about 49 inches tall - long and lean. And his younger brother is about to turn two and weighs around 35 lbs. and is probably close to 38-39 inches. You will probably nocitce that they will slow down in growth between 4-5 yrs. old.

As far as them both riding the rides, use your judgement. If the two yr. old is old enough and can sit still long enough for the ride (assuming they are tall enough) than go for it if you don't think they will freak out. My almost two year old .... there is no way he will sit still that long without being held .

My son is 11, and just about 4'9 and 87 pounds, he has been between 82-87 pounds for the last 3-4 years, his max was 92 last summer during a growth spurt, MY DR tells me to let him eat, he does not want too.. So, unless you think your kids are unhealthly or the DR does, I would say they are fine, it is just how they are built.. DS will be tall but very skinny and broad shoulders...

Maybe your ped can tell you how big they will be , mine estimated 6'2-6'4 for my son, so I hope he gains weight someday :goodvibes

My son will be 6 next week -- he is 46" tall and an even 50 lbs. My daughter was 3 in December and is 39" tall and weighs 38 lbs. My husband is 5'11" and I am 5'1". My kids are usually on the tall side of their peers.

My son was tall enough for many rides that he would not ride. He is not a daredevil like the little one. If I could have switched their bodies, I'm sure dd3 (was still 2 when we went) would have rode everything. It's probably my fault though being our 2nd attaction was Tough To Be A Bug -- scared him to death. We left the attraction carrying 2 sobbing children. My lesson was learned -- be careful of what you start out with. He refused ALL indoor theatre productions (and most outdoor as well) and we had to leave out of Little Mermaid and Muppets. He would have loved them -- if I would have been able to get him into the theatre. He did do Mickey's Philharmagic but would not put the glasses on. I did make him see Lights Motors Action and he stopped crying after it started and he saw that all was good -- he actually enjoyed the show very much.

My kids are on the smaller side. DD is almost 8 and she's about 48 in. and 48 lbs. DS is almost 6 and he's 44 in. and 38 lbs. - there's nothing to him! My newest DS is only 6 months and so far, he's a peanut. He weighs a little over 14 lbs right now.

As far as rides go, I would suggest trying them without your kid(s) first and see how wild you think the rides are. Then you can judge if your kids are ready for those wilder rides. Have fun!

My dd just turned 11 the end of April. She is 5' and weighs 101 lbs. She seems to be taller than most in her class but not overweight by any means. a lot depends on your family. While my husband and I are not very tall5'10 and 5'6 respectively, we both have grandparents and close relatives well over 6'. I guess sign my dd up for "giant"

I have one of those would be giants. My DH and his brother are both very tall. my DH is 6"4 and Brother-in-law is 6"10. The poor guy has to duck when he comes into rooms.

My 7 year old son is 53.5 inches and 70 pounds. It's been funny at his cub scout pack events to see a Tiger Cub (1st grade) taller than several Weeblos (4-5th grade)

He was 36 inches by the time he was 18 months, 43 inches at 3.5 and managed to hit 48 inches by his 5th b-day. It's a problem because sometimes he's excluded from kids rides that are appropriate for him. Imagine somebody telling your child who just turned 5, he can't ride the airplanes, you have to be under 48 inches. He's not always interested in riding things that he's tall enough but not really old enough for.

I can relate! My DH is 6'5", brother is 6'8", and I'm 6'. Both my kids are very tall. DS9 is always in the 99th percentile, DD5 at the 95th or above! They have outgrown age-appropriate clothing, rides, etc. WAY too soon. They have also always been treated as though they are older than they are until people are told their age. I actually had strangers come up to me in a public restroom as I was changing my son's diaper (shortly before age 2) and remark "You mean he's not potty trained yet?":scared1:
My sister =in=law's retort (I was speechless!):
blank stare, then "He's not even 2! How old were YOU?" They hushed up fairly quickly.

BTW, don't believe all the prediction charts and the doctors. I was supposed to be 5'8" or so!!!

My boys are "average"- pretty fitting b/c dh is 5'10" 1/2 and I'm 5'4".

The twins are 44" at 5 and the baby is 40 1/2 " at almost 4. Oh twins are 44 & 46 lbs, baby is 41 lbs.

DD8 is about 49" tall and 50#. She has been anywhere between 25th-40th %tile ever since she was born. She is predicted to reach about 5'2"- not surprising since I am about 5'1", and DH is the giant of his family at 5'9".

She doesn't do thrill rides, even though she is tall enough for everything now. She is SO not a daredevil!! She did try Primeval Whirl in January and liked it OK, though. DH is bribing her to do BTMRR with us this fall.
