Are my boys right about Star Wars?

Completely agree about the dialogue. Star Wars is more about the one-liners than the dialogue as a whole. And that's what makes it fun!

For those who want to see Hayden in good roles, you should also check out Shattered Glass... he does a great job. As a whole, I prefer Life as a House, but he does an awesome job in both movies.

Too funny about Wedge... I didn't know that!

Well, like Harrison Ford told George while they were filming the first movie, "You can type this (bleep!) George, but you can't say it!" :rotfl:

I saw Life as a House--which Hayden got a Golden Globe nomination for--before I saw Episode II, and I was thrilled because I thought they found the perfect guy. And I still think they found the perfect guy, but they just wasted him.

It's like the new Clone Wars movie. I'm not excited for it all. They had 3 movies to give us these great Clone Wars stories...and we're getting a cartoon after the fact? Come on, George!

I remember that interview with Ewan McGregor talking about his uncle being in the original films. When he told him he'd been offered the part in the prequels, his uncle told him not to do it!

I MUST be the oddball, because I own Episodes I II & III and have yet to get IV V & VI. :duck: I will eventually, but I REALLY liked the first three, particularly Revenge of the Sith the most. The last three of the story are FANTASTIC and even though things were added to the later DVDs, it's still AWESOME! :thumbsup2

I believe that a bad Star Wars movie is better than 99% of anything else you could watch...!! The prequel trilogy was awesome in its own way and it brought in a whole new generation of Star Wars fans that might not exist otherwise.

Thank you. :upsidedow
As a set of trilogies, I'm more partial towards the prequel trilogy, probably because I saw that trilogy first.

But I love Episode IV, don't get me wrong.

I also blame George Lucas for Hayden's acting in there.

Anyways, is it possible they are talking about THX 1138? It's a sci fi film Lucas made in the early 70s...it's not Star Wars though.

And not too long ago, he said it was really all about Leia. At one point he even said it was the 'droids story. People don't change their underwear as often as Lucas changes his mind about these movies. :darth:

Never mind the whole "Han shot first" debate.... And George FINALLY admitting the "truth"!

George throws in references to that movie all thru the Star Wars movies.

Just stick with episodes IV, V and VI and pretend the others don't exist. That's what I do anyway (and quite a few others I know.)
The original trilogy movies have just the right balance of adventure, sci-fi, humor, etc. I, II and III don't even come close. Just my opinion.

This is what I do. I can watch the original trilogy over and over and over again (oh wait, I have). I watched each of the newer trilogy ONCE and that was enough for me.

I am a super Star Wars fan, including the expanded universe (though I admit to being a bit behind in the books since I just don't have the money or time to get them now). Used to do trivia every week on an old AOL chat lol. I would LOVE to see what George originally pictured for VII, VIII, and IX, but doubt they will ever see the light of day. They have already set the universe with the books, added much loved characters (Mara Jade and the kids), and killed some important people as well. Since all of it had to be approved by Lucas, he can't really go back and change it all.

Never mind the whole "Han shot first" debate.... And George FINALLY admitting the "truth"!

Heck ya Han shot first... he's a scoundrel!

There are also prints from 1977 that have the original voices of Luke's aunt and uncle. They were British, but their voices were dubbed over by American actors so they would sound the same as Luke (as it wouldn't make sense if Luke had an American accent if he was raised by British foster parents). I think it's the original Betamax release of the first film that still has the track of the original voices.

Also, Darth Vader was played by a Scottish actor. They say he couldn't quite come across as the "villain" because of his voice. In steps James Earl Jones and Darth Vader was complete...

Anyone ever use the "1138" code on any of the prequel DVD's to find the hidden easter eggs? I love yoda dancing to rap music on ep III DVD.

ya know, even though its confusing\
I'm, rather glad they they filmed 4-6 first, the finding out that darth vader was LUke's father........ wow!

the impact of that would never have been there if you saw 1-6 straight through!!

Well that's interesting, I had no idea. Not that I own them, but now if I do I can look for the easter eggs.

There is a Star Wars exhibit at the Science Museum in St. Paul, MN. We are heading out today to see it. Just an FYI for any fans in the area that might not know it is there.

Um...I own the Wookie Christmas show on DVD...

Yep, David Prowse. And when they filmed the "I am your father" scene in ESB, he was actually given different dialogue ("Obi-Wan killed your father!") to say so the big secret wouldn't be revealed to anyone on set that day. Mark Hamill was only told what the actual line would be just moments before they shot the scene, and David Prowse wasn't told at all--he found out when the movie opened.

So the guy who played Darth Vader didn't even know he was Luke's father. :rotfl:

Most of the bad acting in the prequel series can be directly attributed to Lucas. There is a reason why Empire Strikes Back is the best movie -- Lucas didn't write the dialogue (It was written by Leigh Brackett and Larry Kasdan.)

Lucas is a great idea man, he has a gift for plot, but he couldn't write decent dialogue if his life depended on it. I *prayed* that he would let a script doctor (even Carrie Fisher) loose on the new trilogy scripts before they were shot, but no, he just *had* to write it all himself. Idiot. Those films could have been so much better. (And don't get me started on the costumes -- he micromanaged those, too.)
