Are Moo Moo's And Boo Boo's Doomed?...Part 5

Excuse me for anyone who has seen this elsewhere.

So......yesterday we got a rental truck for the concert Sunday. We picked it up in Hollywood on Friday to save mileage charges. We drove to the church and loaded up all the percussion that we thought we would need from the storage room, and then went home.

Fran had agreed to buy a set of Timpani from a guy that plays with us regularly and it was a pretty good deal. He is playing with us Sunday so we decided to go pick them up last night since he could use them on Sunday. I headed over there about 7PM. We got them loaded into the truck, and due to restrictions at their complex his wife needed to sit in the cab of the truck so I wouldn't get towed.

Once we finished loading the drums, she turned off then engine (required for the lift in back to operate) and immediately smoke started to come out of the front of the truck. Pretty soon we saw red hot flaming wire in the connection from the cab to the box part of the truck (in the engine area) and then a flame shot out. We were able to get it out with my water bottle from the cab and a pitcher of water from inside the house.

The Fire Department came out and told us we were OK. But here's the kicker. We rented the Truck through Budget. We told them that the contents of the truck needed to be at a rehearsal in Long Beach (I was in Garden Grove picking up the Timpani) at 8:00AM so that we could unload and set up on Saturday morning. After several hours of back and forth on the phone with these people they finally admitted that there was no way they could do it.

They offered to tow the truck, but with about $100K value of musical instruments in there (replacement value) there was no way we were letting them turn the thing on it's side and drag is 12+ miles! So we ended up offloading it there at my friend's house and taking it back home in 4-5 different vehicle trips. Some of the stuff wouldn't fit in a vehicle so we left it there.

At 7:30ish Fran was able to rouse me out of bed and we were able to get a truck from a different company, so we jumped on that and immediately started to load the truck from the other company with all the stuff we brought home from the other truck. Needless to say it was a sort of disaster and we started rehearsal way late since our whole original plan was blown.

However, I think we were able to salvage rehearsal, and make it a good one. They ate quite a bit of my pulled pork and BBQ Beef, but there are still leftovers unfortunately. We'll figure that one out and see how we can get ride of them.

For tomorrow night, after the concert we plan to go to a Chinese restaurant next to the park, where we get a "package" everyone picks an entrée and we all get a "wonton, egg roll and paper wrapped chicken plus soup".

I'm just going to be happy to be done with the whole thing. The nightmare with the Budget People was enough. Thank God Penske was cool about everything!

Oh my gosh I'm glad you and your equipment (but most importantly YOU!!) were safe!! That's so scary! I'm glad it ended up ok!

On a random side note. I just did a 6k in the 90 degree weather. But I got free food water and beer so it was worth it!

Congrats! :cutie: I hope it wasn't humid as well, because that can make 90 degrees feel like 110.

Nope. Just super dry heat. It was miserable. One wonderful woman we ran by was watering her garden then filled her green watering can and started to ask the runners if they wanted water poured on them. I wanted to hug her. It felt amazing!

And thanks guys!

Tiff- haha I know what you mean. I'm planning on going to both Disneyland and WDW in 2015 to get my coast to coast medal from runDisney (tink half and wine and dine half) then in 2016 we're going to try the princess half again and maybe the Tower of Terror 10k! Haha I could plan out all my vacations for years around runDisney events!

Wow I wish I had your enthusiasm for running!

We have 2013 booked and 2014 planned and mostly booked. 2017 may be Hawaii again if we like it (that's when we will be able to use 3 years of pts again)

So I have 2015 And 2016 and want to fit Alaska in there somewhere...

Awww Bella that was sweet of the lady to do that. Like running in a rainstorm, except you like it when it happens. :rotfl:

In random news, just now I might've gotten some shred of hope that my Disney-hating-Dad will agree to spending Christmastime at WDW. Reasons behind my 'hope of him liking WDW again' being?

He last went in July of 97' - HOT and not as much for him to do.
Us going December of 13' - PLEASANT and plenty for him to do.

Plane tix from NJ to FL in 97' - even though it was only 1997, tickets from NJ were pretty pricey at the time, with hours upon hours of waiting in standby when our flights would get cancelled/rescheduled. :sad2:
Us going December of 13' - only a 7 1/2 hr drive from where we live now, and estimated gas cost would be around $160 round trip for three of us. Looks MUCH better than almost $1,000 in airfare. :crazy2:

When he last went in 97' - no Soarin', AK, Test Track, ToT, Mission Space, etc.
Us going December of 13' - all of the above. :cool2:

Oh, and he loves cookies. A LOT. Going to MVMCP means a ton of hot cocoa and cookies. This will win him over big time. :rotfl2:

Don't forget to tell him about Goofy's at DTD with the design your own dipped cookies!!!

OMG!! Thank goodness you weren't on the road when that happened. And thank goodness everyone is safe and the equipment wasn't damaged!!

Awesome job..but yikes, that is hot for running a race!!

Oh geez I am already starting to plan vacays for 2015! It's a sickness...

I can relate. I'm thinking about 2015 already (will be booking a dummy cruise while on board the Fantasy...just in case). Maybe there is a support group we can join. Oh yeah, I think it is called the DIS :lmao: :rotfl2:

Oh darn...because I was thinking it would be cool if you planned Alaska in 2014, say maybe.....August ;) :rotfl:

A very happy Monday Morning to you all!!!

For those of you on Facebook, you may have seen what I did over the weekend :) My DD and I went on the D23 tour of the Walt Disney Studios and Archives. It was a very cool tour (even in 96 degree heat, LOL).
I booked the tour for my DD, since she really wants to be an animator. I thought she would enjoy seeing the actual studios. But I think the best part was the archives and seeing all the Disney history in one room. That included the opening day ticket and parking pass (which Dave Smith said was more rare than the ticket) and the very first ticket sold to the general public, which was purchased by Roy O. Disney. We both got to hold one of Walt Disney's Academy Awards. I have never seen an Oscar statue up close, much less held one before :worship:

And of course no visit to a Disney Property is complete without a visit to the store (studio store, in this case). We came home with quite a few new pins and t-shirts, as well as an art book that DD have Dave Smith sign.

haha yeah but does the DIS still support me if I do non Disney vacations?

We really can't do Alaska in 2014 tho! We booked the Southern Caribbean DCL in October and we have our Cow suite in January. And I did promise friends I'd come to London so need to fit that in somehow too! Eeks!

I think I have sold myself on the new NCL Getaway in early 2015 tho! It looks SOOO fun!

I have bought, and paid in full for a cruise/airfare December of 2014....

So yes, let's plan for 2015...
