Subject line says it all. :) Wondering if they are the same thing, just shaped differently (and called something else).

Also, where is the best place to buy them (I'm going for the beignet taste/experience, in case they are different)?

Would you suggest Ralph Brennan's Creole Cafe in DTD for beignets at breakfast, over inside the park?

The fritters that I've had were more like hush puppies (fried corn bread). Beignets are closer to donuts.

The ones in DTD are different from the ones in the park, but I've heard conflicting reports as to which taste better. I've had the ones in the park, and I thought they were just ok. They tasted like they were heated up, and not fresh.

I think I'll be stopping in at DTD, since they open at 8, and in later September even EE won't be until 9. :)

Thank you!

I would say that they are kind of the same. The fritters are just fried cream puff dough (I think it's called pate choux). I haven't had mickey beignets, but LOVE the beignets at the Jazz Kitchen express! I had beignets at WDW (POFQ food court) and they just weren't as good...

I do love the fritters in NOS, though...with that apple custard dipping sauce...yummy...

I love the beignets in DTD. Sometimes I even bought a bag at night with a milk to take back to the DLH for a great snack! They are made fresh for you and are so warm and yummy:love:

Last time I was at jazz kitchen they did not offer any mickey ones, just the reg square type shape I know from New Orleans. The fritters are a totally different thing from the beignets. Oh also if you want them to be nice and fresh I would suggest dining or getting them from the sit down section. The jazz kitchen express ones OI tried both sit down and express, and the express ones were a bit hard, and cold. Tasted more like they had been made for a while and sat. I am born and raised in Louisiana, I know some good beignets lol can't live in LA and not make at least 1 trip to Cafe Du monde for cafe au lait and beignets I no longer live in louisiana, so boy do I miss the real deal ones..

I've only visited New Orleans twice (both times completely alone, which is an interesting way to go there), but I think I had beignets twice a day each day I was there. :)

I actually have a box of mix my SIL sent, but can't bring myself to make them on my own.

I realize I mis-spoke by only mentioning the mickey shaped ones...should have included the normal-shaped ones, too. :)

Note to self: do not wear black while eating them!:upsidedow

btw, I think the jazz kitchen express ones are cafe du monde beignets, because they have the boxes of mix there. they also have cafe au lait!

I wondered if that what they meant by "the original" on their menu!

cafe au lait...yum.

Does DL allow you to walk in with a cup of coffee from DTD?

that I don't know...

yum, now I'm really craving beignets and cafe au lait! Maybe I can pop down there Friday...hmm...

yes, but you will be there soon! :thumbsup2

Hi SunnyV!

I snagged a picture for myself, of a Cafe Orleans plate of Mickey beignets, but it was from someone's signature on a different board, one with the plural of "mouse" and a word similar to "talk". Even though it sounds like better ones can be had in DTD, they still made me drool.

Just googled. Do a google Image search for "mickey beignet" (a simple phrase search yields this thread in third position right now), and you'll see a few versions of the picture I snagged. Looks like people like taking pictures of them. :)

A non-Mickey shaped one is, um, oh man I can't remember what shape it is. Sorry.

Just watch out for the powdered sugar on top, especially if eating them outside in the wind!

I've had beignets from Ralph Brennan's Express and the Mickey Beignets from Café Orleans. The Mickey beignets were lighter than Ralph's but make a delicious breakfast and are served with a creme anglaise and the raspberry jam that is also served with the Monte Cristo. I agree, the beignets from Brennan's make a great late night snack. To me, I think they were both delicious :)

I tell you, 23 days cannot come fast enough.

Except two days before that is my HS reunion, and I'm worried about how I look, and don't feel ready for the reunion. Thank goodness I chose Disneyland AFTER the reunion! :lmao:

I just want to say how much I love the Fritters! I just wish they made them like they use to at Disneyland :( The fritters use to be made at the little window behind the Restaurant in New Orleans Square right near the train entrance they used to fry up the Fritter's to order, they were about the size of your fist (you get three small ones now) and were hot and wonderful. Oh the good old days.

Fritter's are a fried dough that has air in the center that has a eggy dough type texture inside and is rolled in sugar.

Beignets are like a kissing cousin to a doughnut, but different and better!

I haven't had the Mickey Beignets in the park but the Jazz Kitchens are YUMMY!

I have to agree that the sit down part of jazz kitchen with some cafe au lait is the best. I prefer them at the sit down part of the venue because they came out hot, and very very fresh and yes DO NOT wear black lol bad thing to do the sugar goes everywhere!!! I havent had them at Cafe Orleans. They do have the Mickey ones there, so I may stop by there this time around.

I am sooooo trying these when we visit next May - probably both kinds, so we can compare!:thumbsup2

They sound delicious - and I don't care if they're messy - that's what washing machines were invented for!:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Oh, but if you're having them for breakfast before going to the parks, that's a bad time to be getting messy already! :)

I'm already thinking of ways to keep my messy boys (DS 3 and DH 35) clean, LOL. Bibs? Big napkins?

Or maybe I'll just sneak off for my own personal b'fast while they are still brushing their teeth or something.
