When I go onto our Disney app to make park reservations (my husband is a CM) both of our Main Gate passes state No Reservations Required. Says they do not require a reservation in order to enter a park. Has anyone seen this?

I already know about January 9. Our account on the app already says this and has for a few weeks.

I guess the question would be when are you going, you never stated a date.

We’re thinking of 12/30 to EPCOT. But — if we don’t need a reservation — does it matter?
No, but you were asking why and then seemed like you were upset when someone told you about something you already knew. I'm sure that since it is only a week or so away that they might just be dropping everyone's requirement especially if you are a passholder. Since you didn't specify when you were planning on going it was pretty natural to mention the January change and therefore the January 9th, date became something that didn't matter once your plans became known.

I just went on the MDE website and tried to make a reservation for my D's Main Gate pass and I could do it, but most days this week were not available (MK is blocked). No idea why it is telling you that.

Maybe you aren't aware but pass holders will still have to make park reservations. January 9th means nothing. Nothing changes. At best we've been informed that we may be offered some freebie days where we can go without a reservation but in general, same old same old.

You are correct, I don't know what is or isn't allowed or part of the process for CM's. I was just trying to guess at what might have been the reason. As for facts, I have none it just seemed like maybe something was done that may or may not have been the norm. As far as my personal concern, I have none really. I'm not a CM and I have no plans to go to that area of the country in the foreseeable future. I do think that the reservation system is probably one of the most idiotic ideas that those high paid morons, that run the company, have come up with in all the time I was a fan of WDW.

Im not sure what you're looking at but Cast Members are still required to have park reservations and they as far as I've heard, there are none available at any park for the rest of December. So if you show up to Epcot on December 30 without a reservation, you're not getting in.

Cast Members and Annual Passholders will have a similar system with good to go days with no reservation required, but there will still be days that require a reservation. After January 9, there will definitely still be days with reservations required, it just won't be every day. Disney has released this information both to the public and on the cast member hub.

For my curiosity, can CM members not enter after 2 without a reservation of some sort somewhere in the start of the day? I know AP can

Thanks for confirming what I’ve read too. As an out of state AP holder, I’d be a bit annoyed if I have to continue to make park reservations even with an onsite stay but CMs don’t have to at all. I understand it’s a perk the CM’s get, but dang, for $1100+ per pass plus paying for onsite resort stays, no way should we be the only ones who need park reservations.

I'm ok with it being mostly the same. But as a local with lots and lots of friends and neighbors who are cast members, I disagree with being annoyed if a cast member didn't have to make a reservation or has any other perk better than an AP. They are employees, and companies can give their employees whatever perks they want.

I am an AP holder and a mom of a CM- and my daughter has an AP as well, I'm saddened by some of the comments. People work hard to make your vacation magical. They work crazy schedules, they also don't get their schedules more than 2 weeks in advance- so they don't really have a chance to make reservations. They also are blocked out of certain parks (which is why she has an AP!). They have enough restrictions as it is.

I hate the reservation system and just want it gone for everyone.

Like so many things Disney has done it was a dumb idea from the start. A park rez is still a requirement as stated on the CM portal until at least the end of March. I’ve been there enough and don’t need to be there anymore. Disney’s loss.

For what it's worth -- As an out-of-state cast member who plans trips like most other guests, I'd just like to say that while having a Main Gate is an amazing perk of working for the Disney company, having to plan in advance can be difficult. Disney doesn't make it as easy to use them as you might think.

I won't go into detail because it will sound really whiny. I know. It's free. I should shut up and be grateful. And I do understand prioritizing paying guests over their employees. I do think it should be a little less complicated to use them, though.

Sorry, didn’t mean for it to sound like I have a problem with CMs getting free admissions. Every company gives their employees perks. CMs deserve perks too. And stinks if they make it hard for you to use. I was just whining about people who are paying for the highest annual pass PLUS onsite resort rates being among the few who have to make park reservations. As the PP said, they should just ditch the whole park reservation nonsense. 👍🏻
