Are "lower" beds available at ASMo?

We are taking my mom to ASMo and I'm concerned that she won't be able to get into the regular beds there -- I remember them being quite high (compared to her bed at home) -- she recently had hip surgery and is a very short lady -- I'm concerned that she'll have to "hop" to get up and risk slipping.

I think I read somewhere that there are lower beds available --- even a cot brought into the room would be helpful --- she will be sharing a room with DH and myself (we are requesting a handicapped room because she relies on her walker or wheelchair to get around).

Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.

You would be able to find that out and arrange for whatever she needs by calling WDW Resort Special Reservations:

They are the ones who deal with any special requests or equipment needs you might have. Some of the wheelchair acccessible handicapped rooms have a single King size bed. So you might want to check with Special Reservations to make sure you are down for what you think you are getting.

Our room at Music (2623) had a king size bed that was lower than my friends room, which was two twins. However, the bed wasn't all that comfortable. We got an invite to a meet and greet, and when I mentioned it, the manager immediately got on the phone and ordered an egg crate. It didn't happen however.

Thanks for the advice -- I haven't called to change the room to a handicapped room yet -- at the moment we just have ressies for regular rooms (adding mom to the trip came up after she completed rehab and came home from the elder care center).

I will call in the morning and explain the situation -- do you think I should also fax a reminder of our needs to the resort -- and if so, how soon before our arrival should I do that?

I guess I thought you said you had already requested a handicapped room for her.
If you work thru Special Reservations, they take care of your requests and getting them to the resort, so no need to fax. Also, if you do request a handicapped room, that is guaranteed - not a request.
Some people feel it's really important to fax requests to the resort 3 or 4 days before arrival. Other don't. I'm in the "don't" group. If it is on your reservation confirmation sheet, it's already in the computer and the fax is just another piece of paper for them to juggle with information they already have.
