I know that it changes constantly, but am I allowed to take my lighter with me as a carry on? Can I check it or is this a no go either way?

No lighters anywhere-not in checked bags or carry-ons and even not past the first security check point. But they do allow 2 books of matches per adult in a carry-on. (just went through this last week)

According to the TSA, they allow 4 books of matches in your carry on, none in checked bags.

This may seem like a dumb question but can you get lighters at the Orlando Airport before you go to your hotel?

I would expect the newspaper stands and gift shops will be selling them.

Just flew last week, had lighter in checked bags. Not a problem. Both Philadelphia and Orlando airport said not allowed as carry on.

It is really inconsistent. I went to the trouble of getting book matches for my last work flight, and saw folks inside security with lighters at my home airport.

I also saw folks with lighters inside Dulles airport, so who knows.

I would just get the book matches, then once you arrive get a cheap lighter at MCO or at your resort gift shop.

There is no smoking inside MCO at all anymore, so you won't need the lighter once you enter the building.

Prohibited Lighters and Matches

LIGHTERS

Carry-on Rules

As of April 14, 2005, you are no longer allowed to bring lighters (fueled or without fuel) in carry-on luggage or on your person.
Checked Baggage Rules

As always, ALL fueled lighters are banned from checked baggage for safety reasons.
Department of Transportation exemption
Lighters without fuel are not considered hazardous material and therefore are permitted in unlimited quantities in checked baggage. Tip: Double-check your checked baggage for fueled lighters and your carry-on baggage and pockets for all lighters before arriving at the airport. Because of federal laws and operational considerations, TSA cannot return any prohibited items voluntarily abandoned at the checkpoint. Your airline is responsible for taking possession and disposing of all hazardous material.

MATCHES

Matches are not permitted in your checked baggage due to safety regulations, but up to four books of matches are allowed in your carry-on baggage or on your person. For safety reasons, strike anywhere matches are prohibited at all times from carry-on and checked baggage

Yep, no smoking inside, but, watch a bunch of peoples' dust as they "exit left". LOL

That is a pretty confusing statement.

Ah yes, our government at work. This makes you want to throw up both your hands and holler. :)
