Are kids clubs/nursery open when in port?

I keep reading posts about kids being in clubs while parents are on excursions. Is that new? I did a DCL cruise in Nov. 2008 and I had no idea. We are going on a 5 day cruise on the Dream next year which has two stops on Castaway Cay. I would love to spend one with the family and one alone with my hubby!

The kids clubs are usually open on port days, and I think the Nursery is open as well. At Castaway Cay, the kids clubs on the ship close and the programming moves over to Scuttles Cove on the island until the late afternoon when they open back up on the ship. I assume Flounders remains open on the ship on CC day, since the little ones can't do Scuttle's Cove, but we've never used it.

This is not a new option. You can look over the Navigator's posted in the FAQ sticky to see what times the clubs are open as well as Flounders. You can also look over the activities that can be offered during the port times.

The Oceaneer's Club was open while in port on the maiden voyage of the Magic...since I wasn't concerned about the Lab then, I can only assume (but not personally verify) that it was open too. Ditto for moving the programming to Scuttle's Cove while on Castaway. There is a brief time on Castaway day while they are closed for moving.

We used the Nursery for our son while we enjoyed a few hours alone on Castaway Cay. Nursery space fills up quickly so you should pre-book. We booked our time online before the cruise. Looking forward to using the clubs again on our Dream cruise next May!

Flounders has extended its hours significantly in response to guest feedback. It used to be closed for several hours in the day but as of last summer they extended it's opening hours.

As far as i know the club and lab have always been open for much of the time.

We also used Flounders Reef for a few hours on Castaway Cay , then DH went back on the ship and picked her up so she could play for a little while . I was nice booking childcare online pre cruise , I heard they got booked quick.

Flounders is frequently open to provide parents the opportunity to enjoy the DCL sponsered excursions.
