Are Hot Tubs Closed for Cold Weather?

I have been there when they did not have lifeguards working the pools. Most recent was this past January, close to NYE. I haven't a clue what the temps were or how many days they closed but they did have signs out some of the days. So yeah, they do close the pools at least by the fact that they didn't staff them with lifeguards. I've been there 2 other times where they had signs up indicating no lifeguards on duty due to cold temps too.

Yep, this is the difference now. No lifeguard, no pool.
I think that now that pools have fences it is easier to close them when they don't feel it's warm enough to justify staffing them.

The super "cold" days, you can tell who are northerners and who are southerners just by the crowd at the pool. It was us and some Canadians one "cold" winter day....

I know the waterparks close when it's under 70--Typhoon Lagoon was closed this past Friday. I thought the resort pools did also. I have been there when they are closed and thought 70 was their magic number too.
We were at yacht club last week. Typhoon lagoon was closed on Friday, Nov 16. They had it on the resort channel Wednesday to let people know. Stormalong bay stayed open. A few brave souls were out there.

We were there in January of 2014, and there were some really cold days (lows in the 30s, highs in the 40s, then a couple days near 70 all in the same week). I don't remember the pool being closed completely, but they did limit the hours to what seemed like mostly when the sun was out. They opened later, and closed at 6 is I remember correctly.

When they close the Pools,I don't think it is because they don't want the Lifeguards watching a poorly attended Pool-I think it is precautionary for possible health issues.:)

I think I do recall hearing one day last year that resort pools were temporarily closed one day due to frigid temperatures, but it's rare.
Definitely rare, but can happen several times each Winter.:)

They are more likely to just shorten hours dramatically, but they do close Pools all day at times.:)

We stayed at the Poly last January and the feature pool was closed completely several days and several days was only opened for shortened hours. The quiet pool was open and my children were the crazy ones in the pool. At night the steam was coming off the top of the water! The Poly has a hot tub at the quiet pool, so that was open. We didn't get an explanation as to what determined if it opened or was closed. However it seemed like during the week, it was closed and on the weekend they attempted to open for at least shortened hours.

Also note that resort pools close much less frequently than the water park. Some of it involves water volume (harder to heat) and some is demand vs. minimum required staffing. You need far fewer staff at a resort pool, and much greater demand to make staffing the water park worthwhile
