Are Holding Points Suspended Until April 30?

My wife and I have a ten day split stay booked for AK and CCV beginning April 17, but the odds are about 50/50 that we will be able to go. Was planning on cancelling before the 30 day limit just to be safe, thus avoiding the dreaded holding account, but am wondering if I can still get the points back without holding prior to April 30, even if I have to cancel as late as a few days before the trip. Can anyone shed any light on the matter? Thanks!

The 30-day holding rule will not apply to a cancellation done on or before April 30. Just be aware that in timing your cancellation, it is still best to cancel somewhat earlier rather than later to assure avoiding any of the problems that have arisen far too often lately -- members finding the website will not work properly and that no one at Member Services answers the phones, i.e., you might want to extend that "few days before the trip" to an earlier first try at cancellation.

The website will probably crash on April 30th and MS will have multiple hours wait time on hold due to the number of people trying to cancel ahead of holding (and borrowing being permanent) policies returning.

No doubt. But my trip is on April 17, so at the latest I'd cancel on, say, April 10-12. But here's a question. If I cancel on the website, will they automatically go into holding? Or prior to April 30, will the computer just return them to their UY? Do I have to call member services to get the points out of holding?
