I know my DD7 will be begging to wear her heelys in the parks when we are there in Nov. Are they allowed? I know some places are no longer allowing them.

I am pretty sure they are not allowed. Last year we saw a CM stop a boy using his, and told his parents they weren't allowed.

Even if they were allowed, I would strongly advise them to be left at home. The crowds are so heavy with strollers and wheelchairs and motor-scooters and pedestrians of all shapes and sizes, adding Heelys to the mix is just a safety hazard!!

Definitely not allowed at ANY Disney park. Heely's should never be worn in crowded places. Or really anywhere that roller skates aren't allowed as in my opinion they are the same thing.

They are actually banned in theme parks (among other places) by FL law...now, whether people respect that is another matter entirely.

Glad to hear this! I don't like those shoes. I really dislike them in the grocery stores--where I am in Indiana they haven't been banned in the groceries!

Here is the information directly from the WDW site:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs
Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are

Very good point and no matter what Disney says, I see kids with Heelys on all the time. :sad2:

Not only are they not allowed I think it is irresponsible to allow a child to skate on them is a crowded public place! My DD4got mowed down by a child of about 10 in the mall a while back. She was hit hard, and her head was the first thing to hit the ground. It was very scary, and the kid that did it never stopped. No parent in sight.

I know official park policy is that they are not allowed, but I have seen them in the parks..which really bugs me as for some reason i am like some sort of super attracting heely magnet and always seem to get run into. I wish disney did a better job enforcing some of the park rules. Although I realize they don't like to upset guests.

I'm glad to see the consensus is that they are not. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I absolutely HATE heelys. I think they are the most annoying invention ever created and I vow if I ever have children, they will never be allowed to wear them! hehe

When we were at Epcot one day we were complaining about the Heelys and a girl behind us in line was a cm at studios. She poked her head into our conversation and told us that the kids can wear the shoes in the parks but they can not have the wheels in gear...apparently the wheels can be locked so they can't roll. And when we asked her how come we saw kids all over the place using them she said that people use them until they get caught. And that the cm's are supposed to ask kids AND parents to lock the wheels. I think maybe once we actually saw some kid get asked to lock his wheels.

They are pretty much allowed. The rule is that you may not use them, but you see tons of kids doing it. I've never seen a CM tell them to stop, more's the pity.

Please remember that some older folks are at Disney all the time, and especially in the off season. A fall can literally be the death of them. Don't let your child skate around at Disney or in any public place not intended for skating.

Whenever I am working and see a child come into the park wearing Heelys I tell the parents they are not allowed and they must take the wheels out now. The wheels do come out by pushing (hard) to the side; you need a special key to get them back in.

I once had a family refuse and I called Security on them.

It was easiest this past winter when I was working as a Greeter at the Studio. Especially at times it was not crowded I would see kids skating along in the entrance plaze outside the turnstiles. Very easy to stop them.

Well, I was in Disney Studios today and saw the following: Heelys, lots of smoking in non-smoking sections and rolling coolers.

As Disney regulars, we find that only supervisors take chances with going up to guests anymore and dealing with these situations, so not a word was said to any of these offenders while they were in our midst.

As a parent, I wouldn't even ask whether or not my child (first of all he/she does not, nor will ever own Heelys) should wear them in a very crowded place as he/she could cause damage or hurt to someone else.

Tiger :(

May the gods bless you. I wish there were more like you. I think it's clear that heelys were invented by the devil.

I am glad that they are not allowed. I am sure that is hard to enforce.

My daughter has been run over by a kid wearing heely's. My daughter was 3 and the girl who ran into her was about 3-4 years older. No serious harm done but I was pretty annoyed that nobody seemed to care that another kid was smacking into a toddler.

I am not against kids having heely's but it is just not a good thing at a very crowded place.

WOW I guess I thought people who let their kids wear Heelys would be more carefull. My dd wears her heelys all the time with the wheels in but I guess she just knows better and always holds on to my hand when she rolls, if it's crowded.

Also, the wheels CAN'T be locked they can only be taken out. We have never been able to take them out without the tool BUT kids can still walk in the shoes with the wheels still in.

I will know not to have my dd wear them since it is against park policy. I don't want the evil stares

I'm not sure I really understand how you can wear the shoes and not have the wheels out but - the reason Heelys are banned is not because of the actual shoe. It's the skating part.

It's kind of like a kid walking down the street with a basketball. Or really any person. Do they actually just carry the basketball? No, they bounce it the entire time what are walking. Pure instinct to do that like it would be to skate in Heelys even though you are not supposed it.

I was really surprised to see the entire Kroger store chain has banned Heely's in their stores. Not only do they have signs up when you enter but every ten minutes or so, they interrupt the annoying grocery store music and have a pre-recorded announcement made.
