Not sure if this is where it needs to be, but I was wondering!!! If you were planning on driving to WDW, are you now having second thoughts??? In my town it is almost $4.00 :earseek: per gallon and the pumps have been shut down for the time being. Does anyone worry that if you get to Florida and then not be able to get back home? We are suppose to leave on Friday am early and we are starting to sweat about it!!!!

Oh yeah $4 in NY - I take public transportation everywhere I go, so I'm not so worried. The subway doesn't run on gas.

I am not worried about my trip as I am taking a bus to the airport and then flying, but it is awful how high the gas prices are. I live in Chicago and prices are astronimical. Sunday it was 2.90 and now I think its about 3.50. Just terrible!

Gas prices went over $3 today in Georgia. There are huge lines at the pump and many stations are out of gas. Local officals say that the supply will be better by Monday. I just hope that prices will go down before our November trip! :earseek:

I just saw a report on CNN that showed $6.07 a gallon in Atlanta!!! Also, some gas stations have been closing as they are not able to get fuel. I would definitely be worried about getting to and from WDW if I were driving. Without a doubt this will affect the cost of flying as well. As the price of fuel soars so will the cost of any and all transportation. No doubt this will make folks think twice about any kind of travel. But we will get through this, just as we have gotten through disasters before...............together.

We are mostly scared of getting stuck down there and not be able to get home!!! But what a wonderful place to be stuck. WE have discussed it and say that it is worth the chance. We NEED a break and this is basicly the ONLY time we have to take a trip!!!!

We are 20 mins east of Dallas and I went to 3 pumps before I found one with gas... then it was $3.00...yes it is scary

It's not the prices, but the shortage that is scaring me to death! :earseek:

Its gonna happen, and soon....who remembers the 70's, when we had to ration gas? Honestly.....I am already wondering about our December trip to WDW, and we booked using the Best Rate program. Non refundable!!

I live in the Atlanta area. There are lines at every gas station. The highest I have seen is $4.09. The lowest has been $2.89. It will continue to go up because of the demand more than likely.

Gas around here (south bend, IN) is at $3.20 today, up from $2.50 just two days ago, but I would much rather have to pay more for gas than to have to rebuild my ENTIRE life. I feel such pain for all of those that have endured hurricane Katrina. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be able to go to WDW as I am sure that some in the south were also very excited for their upcoming trips and now may not even be able to get out to take them. But is still very scary, the thought of running out of gas!!!

Yesterday gas was 2.64 here and my husband went out today at noon and it was 3.19! Then at 5pm one of my daycare childrens moms said that she had just gotten gas and it was 3.59!!!!!!! :earseek: OMG!!!!! 3.59!!!! In the middle of friggin Indiana in a semi small town. What the heck is going on here? :scared: I feel like I am in some kinda weird dream!!!

Yeah, I saw gas prices anywhere from $2.89 to $4.19/gallon on my way home today. I drive a truck that gets 19 mpg. Needless to say, knowing that it's my only means of transportation scares me quite a bit. I have owned it a little more than a year and I wish that I had just kept my Focus, but it has been nice having the truck with our move and all.

I worry about our budget and saving enough money to make it to WDW in December. We have a couple of gas cards, but we try very hard to only use them in extreme emergency situations. We always pay them off when the bill comes in too. If it becomes a necessity, we could just put the vacation gas on the cards, but it's not what I want to do.

I am hoping this all evens out soon. Maggie

Me too.

High prices will hopefully cause people to share rides more often, buy cars that are more fuel efficient (which is the only thing that is really going to make companies care about fuel efficiency).

I don't like that those who are low income have to struggle to buy enough gas. But I don't like that those who can afford it make choices that lead to excess fuel consumption.
Maybe a solution is a combination of high prices combined with a subsidy program for those who really can not afford the high prices, and don't live where there is reasonable mass transit to meet their transportation needs.

I didn't like the idea of lowing environmental standards. I would prefer rationing, with the largest percent of that available going to mass transit and emergency vehicles.
But I don't understand the full economic impact of managing rationing.
I am also wondering if the shortage is way more critical than I have any clue about.

At first I didn't like the idea of releasing fuel reserves, without first using rationing of some sort. But since it is just a short term "loan" I am o.k. with the idea.

Here in my part of Kentucky the gas is anywhere from 2.89 to 3.19. At any given moment the gas can drop in price and then escalate back again. I get my gas at a Kroger gas station and I have personally seen three large tankers fill up the gas pumps in a two day period.

I don't understand why the government isn't imposing a mandatory cap on gas prices,at least for the next month or so.

If we were not getting the free dining at Disney we would not be going at all.

By the way, don't know if you guys know it or not,Disney donated 2 1/2 million dollars earlier today towards the relief effort.

As far as the using of less gas... my husband rides his bike several times a week about 8 miles ( maybe more) to work and back just so that he isn't using the gas. We aren't poor- actually we do rather well but my husband says that by us using less gas he feels like he is helping out the people that can't afford gas. Kinda a small one person boycott..lol. Sometimes I worry about him because he works 2nd shift but he is always takes alot of nighttime safety precautions. I probably would ride my bike places too but alas I have four young children. Ages 6,4,3, and 1. and I only have 2 double trailers... and I can only pull one so it won't work... It would be great if I had a quad trailer for my bike because man I would lose some weight that way!!!!!

Here in NJ, i just paid 2.74/gal. I thought i was one of the lucky ones since the gas station across the street was at $2.99!!

I just got home and saw a long line to get into the gas station near the university here....it is at 2.65 a gallon. That is supposed to go up anytime...which explains the long lines. This sucks!!
I guess it could be worse, I could be living in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama--those poor people!

That is nice to hear that Disney is being so generous! :cheer2: Thanks for sharing that info!
