Are Fish Extenders being allowed yet?

Interesting.

My sister mentioned the cruise group had one for our June Fantasy sailing. I wasn’t sure if they were doing it in spite of the rules or if the rules had changed.

That said, I was kind of looking forward to no FE. 🤪 But if my sister will have one, then we might need to also…. Maybe we will bring it and just do small things for our own family.

Hanging Gift Bags on Stateroom Doors (Fish Extenders)
Door-to-door gift exchanges (via “fish extenders”) among Guests are not permitted at this time.

So everyone doing Fish Extender Exchanges is doing it against DCL rules. The rues have not changed. People are just not caring about the rules and think they dont matter.

I disagree as right now you can’t even call these FEs On my next cruise we are having “gift exhanges “ on board. Sorry but Disney is not going to tell me who and why I am allowed to meet when and where on the ship. Many of us are planning on hanging out ours as a form of decoration. I made one for my upcoming cruise that specifically matches my entire door. Yes I’m still meeting with people to exchange gifts. We also have many magnet exchanges where you just put on the door.

I think most people think these are no longer banned simply in the fact that Disney has gotten rid of indoor masking, social distancing and packing dining rooms so it’s totally understandable for everyone to think OK we can put stuff back out again. I question what does FE have to do with Covid safety anyways If I’m allowed to wander the ship now without wearing a mask

I have also been in many other cruise groups most recently the fantasy many people had FE out. Nobody was told anything. At this point I really wonder if the cruise people on board actually still think they’re not allowed. And the policy by Disney is so hidden I couldn’t even find it myself as I looked for it.

And I know in the Cruise groups people are planning these because it take a while to plan and most are assuming just like any other Covid policy it can change overnight so lease and you have your group set up. And worst case you just meet everyone in the atrium, pool deck or pubs

This is what I don't understand. I don't think Fish Extenders would transmit COVID, to begin with, so I'm not sure why that became part of the COVID protocol. With social distancing and masking going away it makes no sense to "ban" Fish Extenders. I understand it's a matter of opinion, but my plan is to hang mine, even if for decoration, and at the least put some things in for my kids as they so look forward to the Fish Extender.

Technically, a group meeting up in a common area is not really "door-to-door". That's my understanding of what people are doing on the ships for exchanges. I don't think it's against covid rules, especially since they are seating separate parties together again in the dining rooms without masks. I think they are just tired of the junk hanging on the doors and possibly knocked onto the floors and people complaining about their stuff getting stolen. I personally liked doing FE and will be disappointed to not use our FE hanger.

I just dont get it, DCL are stating in their rules that door to door fish extender exchanges are not permitted, but some people think they know better and do it anyway???

Why does it matter the reason why its not permitted, its in the rules so don't do it.

Its just the same as the banned items list or the alcohol type / limit.

Why do some people think rules dont apply to them, the I paid $$$ so I am doing what I want, I dont care what DCL says people!!

I'm not sure why you're getting so worked up about this. I am sure FE will be allowed again soon since all other restrictions have been removed. People have reported recently of putting up their FE and it wasn't removed from the door and put in their room like before. Perhaps they just missed removing the wording from the website. I don't see why it should matter so much to you if they decide to put it up...DCL will remove it and put it in their room if they need/want to.

And please don't think I'm attacking you. It's just one of those things you can't control.

I have fish extenders that I find very appropriate for a Disney cruise. They are well made and Disney-themed. And I have seen ones that do look cheap. But we are not on a Cunard nor Viking Cruise. People wear Mickey Mouse ears to dinner. It’s appropriate to many.

And I haven’t participated in the gift-exchange aspect of this phenomenon in years. I just like my FE. I am big on following rules. But if I hang my FE and not exchanging gifts, then I am not technically breaking the rules. (I thought the clamp down was to keep people from hanging out in the hallways - so not just technically, but in the spirit of the rule.)

things no body needs made in China from your fish.

I personally have hand-made every single FE gift I've ever given. And we have received some amazing gifts in return. We have a really nice cooler bag that we use all the time with a DCL logo on the front. When my power when out a few weeks ago, I used a cute little lantern with a DCL sticker on the back. On the back of our stateroom door, we like to hang our wooden magnetic hooks to hang our lanyards on. In my guest bathroom, I have a beautiful anchor shaped wooden picture frame, in which I put a photo from our Alaskan cruise. On my Christmas tree, I hang multiple beautiful DCL themed ornaments we've received. On my fridge, I have a really nice wooden magnet in the shape of a ship that says "Disney Wonder" on it.

I could go on. We've been extremely lucky to have received some really thoughtful gifts. Yes, we've gotten some lame stuff, but I just regift, recycle, or throw away as appropriate. And we haven't always participated on every single cruise. But on the whole, FE has enriched our cruises while onboard with the sprit of giving, helped us make connections with other cruisers, and given us some truly one-of-a-kind keepsakes we could not have gotten elsewhere.

FE group exchanges go far beyond exchanging gifts~
In my opinion, it is not just about the gifts. It is about the spirit of creating, sharing, exchanging and giving. Many sweet memories and lifelong friendships have been made through this.
How many opportunities do children have to skip down the hallway excited to find a cabin so that they can share a gift with a complete stranger? How fun is it for kids and adults alike to walk up to their cabin or open their door in the morning and find a treat chosen or made just for them?
Often, families bring more gifts than needed for their group just to do a random act of kindness (pixie dust) to put in random hanging FEs or to give to families/kids just walking down the halls.
We need MORE of this kind of giving, sharing, kindness in this world.
My kids are older now and we don't do them anymore, but every time I see them, I smile.
Instead of seeing eyesores and nuisances when you see them, think about the joy.

This is actually why we stopped participating. Early on FEs were just little things like a magnet or a sample of candy from your hometown. I liked to make themed music CDs (which no one wants anymore as CD players disappear). I also made little quilted magnets. I never spent more than $20 total, and did one gift per stateroom, not per person. And, then we started getting these extravagant gifts, like the items you mentioned. They were clearly very costly and often per person, not per stateroom. The money people had spent made me uncomfortable. Some were very bulky and hard to pack to take home. FE organizers started to make lists with lots of qualifiers and minimums per guest. People started to complain about "cheap" gifts here and on Facebook - including CDs and handmade magnets. Labels were required so you would know who gave you what. Some people said they waited to see what they got and then decided based on the "quality" of the gift if they would distribute theirs.

So, we no longer participate in FEs. I do tend to take some glow bracelets and necklaces that I hand out to kids at the night deck shows, and often have Disney stickers.

If people like the new way of doing FEs that is fine, but it is no longer for us.

Well, whether or not it is allowed yet sort of leads to SHOULD it be allowed? To be honest "It is about the spirit of creating, sharing, exchanging and giving." is NOT why I am taking a Disney cruise. I am on vacation. I don't want to create or share or give. I want to relax and not have people trapsing up and down the halls outside my cabin looking for 'gifts'. Again, my two cents before this thread gets closed. it is obviously NOT Disney sanctioned even if you put Mickey Mouse stickers on your 'gifts'.

Not sure the origin of Fish Extenders. I sure don't recall hearing of them until long after my 2003/04 Disney cruise, and sure don't recall seeing any on the ship.

Such a ray of sunshine! Cruises are for all walks of people, having fun, relaxing, connecting with others or getting away from it all by yourselves. To each their own. It’s not a private cruise- everywhere but our cabin is public space. As long as people are respectful to others, what does it matter what others are doing?
