Are fans or white noise machines allowed?

I am so sorry. I somehow totally missed that and went right from the outside air supply forcing more air in to the cooler not being able to work on it's on. I try to read carefully, but clearly failed here.

Again, sorry (and thanks for pointing it out without calling me an idiot!)

ETA - I guess quoting didn't work since C6PT7 didn't having anything quotable (so I added something so that the link was valid).

Hey! No harm!
We all miss things sometimes and thanks for owning up to it, and not editing your previous post like some members do! :)

Just curious, what section of Walmart are white noise machines in?
I got mine in the section with candles and spa items.

I got this one
HoMedics SoundSpa Portable Sound Machine
on Walmart.com they have it for $17.97 in my local store for pickup only.
Check out walmart.com or Amazon.com and price them out. I did see one that looks even smaller for $12ish.
And if I remember right, the one I have can be run by batteries too.

It would be nice to have one that runs by batteries.

They ask you to keep the doors closed. Doesn't matter if it does or does not affect others - you should just honor DCL's request and keep the door closed. It's really not that difficult.
I agree. But, unfortunately, there are those who feel the world is theirs to do with as they wish. So, they only believe what they want to believe.

Well two member with opposing views have thought about it again when provided with actual facts and not just DF's blanket statement. Maybe more could be convinced and weaned around?

I read the initial question and had a mini panic attack. I'm so glad sound machines are allowed as my daughter doesn't sleep well without hers.

When we cruised in January 2014, we asked GS if they could bring us a fan -- our room was stuffy. (Hmmm.) They did. I'm sure there aren't enough fans available for everyone to use but if you're doesn't work out for some reason, it never hurts to ask.

I should add that rather than try to bring on board fans, machines etc--IF you have a phone with apps, that works just fine. I set ours to 'Fan" or "AC" (or 'Ocean waves:)) and I am in the white noise business!!

As for the business about the verandah doors--DCL asks they be kept closed and I am sure that is for a good reason!!!

We always brought a portable fan and never had a problem. On our last cruise we brought a new one because I felt it was a little bit louder but still a portable fan. When we got our luggage, it was gone. They told us they weren't allowed and brought us an air purifier to use instead. Two nights later, they gave us our fan back to use. So weird. Next time I will bring my old fan. We also use the fan app along with our fan. We have to drown out my husband's snoring.

I was thinking of putting our small fan in our carry-on. Will that be a problem?

I would assume it got pulled for the electrician to inspect. Once he had time to get to it (2 days into the cruise), it was approved and returned for your use. Could happen with either the old or new fan. I believe they have been stricter in the past year on fans as well as the tightening on power strips and extension cords.

Maybe, maybe not. They might make you turn it in to be inspected. Or it could slip past security.

From the DCL website (highlighting is mine):
The following items are permitted but with the following restrictions:
  • Walkie-talkies and two-way radios (e.g., Motorola, JVC). Please be aware that the amount of steel in the ship's infrastructure may cause some "dead zones" and the radios may not transmit in these areas.
  • A small portable fan. However, please contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve the use of your particular appliance in the stateroom.
  • Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) and flotation sewn into the bathing suit for safety. However, recreational floating devices such as floats, rafts and fun noodles cannot be brought on board and are not permitted in the pools or on Castaway Cay.
  • Golf clubs, as long as they are stored in your stateroom.

Enjoy your cruise!

We always travel with a fan! It's never been an issue for us on the cruise. Ours is small, but does plug in.
