Are fans or white noise machines allowed?

(I don't have a smart phone with an app. I'm only asking about the electric types.)

"The following items are permitted but with the following restrictions...A small portable fan. However, please contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve the use of your particular appliance in the stateroom."

They're both allowed, it's just that fans have electric motors that can overheat, short out, and catch fire. White noise machines do not.

That's why they want the electrician to examine the fans. They are allowed so long as the electrician finds them to be safe. White noise machines are always allowed.

I got my white noise machine for under $20 at Walmart. It's small and flat and packs easy. (no bigger than 8 inch circle)
I would think that would be less expensive then shipping a fan directly. Just my thought.

I wouldn't think so, there is no way for them to receive the package, check the package and then have it delivered to your room. It doesn't take long to have an electrician check them out after you board.

I kind of like the fans not only for the noise but to circulate the air...but those noise machines are relatively inexpensive so maybe I'll try one and see if I like it. But if not, then I guess I'll bring it with me (fits in my large duffel bag) and have them look at it. Thanks.

true if you do it carefully it works by magnets if you do not have it open to far.

Not true, see above, he is correct. You can open it a bit and it works, if the magnets are close, when they no longer contact at all, it may stop.

That's why there is a dial that you can turn up so that the AC doesn't kick on. I would rather breathe ocean air than stale air that comes out of a duct any day.

We travel with a battery operated fan. Works great for white noise and to circulate the air in the room. Also comes in handy at home when the power goes out.
