Are Dooney & Bourke bags worth the cost?

I am really tempted to buy the 40th anniversary Dooney & Bourke wristlet bag but I have never spent $50 on a purse before (especially a small one). Is it really worth the extra $$? (I usually get a cheap bag from K-Mart for about $20 and feel guilty about spending the money.)

On a wristlet? Probably not. Their handbags are gorgeous and last forever but they are heavy as sin. I prefer their nylon collection, which is lighter. If you're going to get a D&B wristlet, I would get one from their nylon collection which is just as lovely.

I've heard they are a little heavy. That's a good point. Hmmm. I try to carry a small purse when travelling so I thought the size would be good for the cruise in Sept.

I'll check out the D&B thread. I didn't see it before - thanks!

I think they are. If I saw a wristlet that I loved, I would spend $50 on it because it would be something I would have and use for a long time.

I think that they are better made than Coach but thats me, they may be heavier But they hold up amazingly.
If you have TJmaxx by you they have them discounted

OK, I admit it. I have a closet full of old Dooneys and Coachs. I don't buy them anymore as the quality doesn't seem to be there but I can say that they are worth the money if you want to use it forever. If you like to change up your styles, then no, because you will be sick of it before it's time to get rid of it.

I have carried Dooney bags since the 90's on and off. They have great quality. I usually change my purse out each season and then sell the used one but there is one favorite that I have that is 3 years old. It looks as new as when I got it.

They have amazing customer service I once had an issue with a strap on my purse and they sent me a new one just for asking.

If you think that the style will hold over time and a wristlet most likely will I would go for it. Once in a while a treat is nice!

I have never been a purse girl and would usually pick up one at Kohl's when I needed a new one. That was until my wonderful DH surprised me with a Disney Cruise Line Dooney & Bourke while we were on the Wonder back in December. I would have never, ever paid that much for a purse. My husband knew how much I liked it, so he bought it for me.

Now I'm addicted! I love my purse and get many, many compliments on it. I'm looking to buy my next one and can't wait to check them out when we're in WDW next week.

In answer to your question, it's all a matter of opinion. In my opinion, no. Of course, I never spend more than $30 for a purse. I am not a purse person!

If you already feel guilty with $20 bags I wouldn't recommended getting a Dooney & Bourke, even considering the quality.

I can't speak to the quality of the Disney (? vinyl) ones, but I have two "all-weather" leather D&B's that are about 7-10 years old and they still look brand new. I bought a great D&B signature tote last year at the Orlando Premium Outlets. After a year of schlepping it back and forth to work every day, it looks like I just purchased it. I love the quality of my Dooneys!

In 2009, I went nuts and bought a Disney Sketch Tote Bag by Dooney & Bourke -- Medium, a Disney Sketch Tassel Tote Bag by Dooney & Bourke, and 7 wristlets ( one for my daughter and me and 5 others for her friends who came with us).
The 2 purses are sitting in my armoire and my wallet is on my dresser. My daughter and her friends still use theirs.
So to answer your question, yes, they're well made, they're not too heavy, it was not worth it for me because I used my bags once.

I love my DB's and Coach...although I think Coach has gotten a little cheaper feeling lately. I've had some db's and coaches for almost ten years and they look like new still. I was at the outlet this weekend and went in the kate spade store and I think I'm in love with KS purses:love:!!!

I'm with you. Not worth it for me.

Plus, years ago I took a self-defense course for women. It was put on by an officer from our police department. He had us carry our purses during one of the classes. He "stole" from us, demonstrated how purse straps could be used to choke us, I've never carried a purse since.
