When it comes to transportation only are the deluxe hotels ie. contemporary or grand fla worth the extra money. We wont spend much time in room so the room isnt a big deal.

I haven't had transportation problems anywhere but the buses at the moderates seemed to come a little more often. Perhaps it was just luck but we never had to wait long at all. Although I'm sure being on the monorail line might be a big plus for some people.

I personally don't believe the deluxes are worth it if you're just looking for a place to sleep. If you're going to spend most of your time at the parks and eating out, then why spend the extra money on a room?

I really think if you have small kids and spend alot of time at MK, they are definitely worth it, especially being on the monorail. I have two girls and started taking them to disney when they were 2 and 5 and we spent alot of time at MK. Getting back to the room in minutes after fireworks or for mid day breaks was so worth it!

IMO the Contemporary is a dump! (ok, maybe that's an overstatement, but I have been more impressed at Hampton Inns ) However I think they have remodeled it a bit since I was last there in 2006. That said, it was worth the money to stay on the Monorail line.

The Grand Floridian is definitely worth it!

It depends. If it's rack rate, no. If you are going at the most expensive time, no.

That said, we have stayed at almost every hotel at WDW. Once you have stayed at a deluxe, you can see the difference. The rooms are bigger, which sometimes you don't think matters, but it does. When your family is tired, cranky, and it's been hot...it is nice to have the extra room. It is nice to have the bigger bathroom, more choices of places to eat, closer to the parks, etc. We always try to stay at a deluxe every chance we get.

The moderates are very nice though. And the all stars are nice too, in their own way.

IMO it is not worth spending that extra money. Especially like you said you spend very little time in the room so why spend all that money! Especially the GF and CR they don't have a lot of scenery. If you are at CBR / CSR or any of the value resrots you have a lot of places to walk and relax. Plus the food at GF and CR is expensive.

It depends on what you need, and are looking for. Back in '04, I wanted to give the CR a try....just for two nights. But my dh and dd were underwhelmed by my choice. Well, after being there, they loved it. Said they had been completely wrong about the resort and wanted to stay there again. So...I just bought DVC, very small contract, at BLT.
GF? That's one resort I have absolutely no interest in. Not sure why. My dh likes it, but I think it's the 'snob appeal' for him. We have friends that say they will only stay there while at WDW...everyplace else is substandard!!

If you are going to spend the majority of your time at MK, then go with one of the monorail resorts. It's especially nice if there are younger kids with you ...sure makes getting back and forth much nicer.

But, if you will be spending equal amounts of time at the other parks, you may want to spend a bit less on your resort. We own at BW....but we spend a ton of time at Epcot. On the other hand, I love POP. Their transportation is the best onsite. I've stayed at POR, OKW, ASMusic, POP, BC, S/D, Polynesian, CR, BW...POP has the best all round bus system of the resorts I've stayed at.

I agree with you. While I would love to stay at the AKL or GF, I stay at Value because I only use the room to sleep & shower - why pay the extra, IMO.

Some people think so, others don't. I suspect you could hire your own car and driver for the price premium vs. a Value resort, but that would be a pretty different experience overall.
