Are DaVinci's reviews changing your mind about seeing it?

2 of my girlfriends and I were going to do dinner and movie tonight because we were all excited to see DaVinci. After reading all of the terrible reviews, we've changed our minds and have decided to wait till video. Usually I don't let the critics sway me, but these reviews have been consistantly bad. Anyone else?? :confused3

Nope, I usually don't agree with critics anway. I'll form my own opinion of the movie.

Unfortunately, I DO let the critics sway me...why? Because I have a degree in theatre and was trained to watch movies LIKE a critic. I've found if the majority (because not all of them are trained, just given the job as a journalist with an opinion) slam it, I won't enjoy it either.

Sometimes I DON'T check the reviews before going if I really want to see it but with this one I checked www.rottentomatoes.com this morning. UGH...

I was wary in the first place now I don't want to waste my money. Mike and I will go see Over the Hedge like he hoped! That got some really GOOD reviews!

I feel the same way. I was all excited about going, but between the critics critizing it so bady (I heard at the film festival people were laughing at the serious parts.....);. Also, I cannot see Tom Hanks playing this part. This is a part for Harrison Ford or someone more academia looking.

Tom Hanks in bad hair with a tweed suit is simply........disturbing. :confused3

We're going to see it later today. Critics are usually wrong and we want to decide for ourselves, anyway.

We don't care if it's not Tom Hanks' best movie. At least the popcorn should be good...

I was disappointed in Tom Hanks being cast in the first place so I was leery about seeing it. The critics bashing it doesn't sway me either way - I've hated movies considered a critical darling and I've like movies the critics have trashed. Besides, I haven't seen a bad Ron Howard movie yet.

I have planned to see this when it comes out on dvd since the begining! I absolutely loved the book and strongly disagreed with the selection of Tom Hanks! The critics reviews only further confirm to me that they have not done this book justice!!! I'm anxious to hear the publics view of it!

BTW, we are going to see Over the Hedge this weekend as well!

The people that agree with critics are generally the same ones that vote for the Academy Awards, and since I think the vast majority of "Best Picture" winners stink to high heaven in terms of their entertainment value, I could not really care less about what critics say. I go to the movies for escapism and to be entertained. If critics want to hold movies to an artistic standard, they should stick to art house fare.

Besides...there is another reason you may not have considered regarding reviews of this particular movie...just what the reviewer's religious belief system is. An awful lot of people will pan this movie, based on that alone.

Also, have you ever seen a movie based on a best seller that actually lived up to the experience of the book itself? :confused3 I'm almost always disappointed by movies based on books that I've read. And, let's face it, how many people haven't read the Davinci Code?

I'll let you know tomorrow what I think of it. DW and I are having a "date night" tonight and going there after dinner. Looking forward to it.

DH really wanted to see this movie. Not I am not so sure. I guess we shall see.

I haven't made up my mind. USA Today gave it 2 *'s but the Charlotte Observer gave it 3 1/2 *'s. :confused3 I will probably wait and see it on PPV or something.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what "real" people say about it. :)

I'll go see it at a Matinee.

I mean, it's only $12 and worth a shot. As my Mom says, well it's probably better than a poke in the eye.

Didn't Crash win the Oscar last year for best picture??? I think that movie just plain stank it up. If you want to see a movie then don't let the critics put you off. An evening out with friends can be enjoyed no matter what the movie! I think I'll see the movie and then read the book. I think I'm the only one out there who hasn't read the book. :wave2:

I really don't pay attention to critics reviews so that won't be a deciding factor on whether I go see the movie. I enjoyed the book but just haven't made up my mind on actually seeing the movie. Add me to the list of those who think Tom Hanks doesn't fit the character role. I've been scratching my head puzzling over that bit of casting since I first heard it. :scratchin I think I would be more inclined to see the movie if a different actor was the in the lead role...maybe Nicholas Cage. A younger Harrison Ford would have been perfect in my book, although he could probably have still pulled it off if given the role.

I have to go regardless for work so we'll see =)

Sometimes I don't agree with the critics and sometimes I do; it'll be interesting to form my own opinion. We're going on Sunday afternoon.

Yep. Initially my thought was I'll see it when it comes out on DVD. Now though... I think I'll pass altogether.

I am another person here on the dis boards who has not read the book as of yet. :guilty:  I have started reading the sequal by Dan Brown, called Angels and Demons which so far is a great read!

Hopefully we'll go sometime this weekend to see the movie. Sometimes I agree with the critics but most often I don't. Oh well, I'm a, have to see for myself type a woman.

I rarely, if ever, let the critics sway me. More times than not, I end up liking the movies they trash. Although, I've read the book (and we all know the movies are never as good as the books) so I know there may be parts of the movie that make me go "huh?" but I still want to see it. Even though I can't see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, I really love him as an actor so I'm hoping I'll enjoy it anyway. I'll probably see it either tomorrow or Sunday with my sister.
