Are Costco cakes any good?

I'm actually interested in the cupcakes. I was thinking of buying Costco cupcakes for a birthday treat for my daughters classroom. She wants me to make her birthday cake, and cupcakes for school, and lasagna for her birthday dinner. Spoiled girl.

I've never had their cupcakes, but I love their birthday cakes. Part of the reason I love them though is because of the filling they have in them, and I don't think the cupcakes have the filling.

Costco cakes are my families favorite. We actually had them at both my niece's weddings in case we ran out of wedding cake.

The filled ones are great, but even the plain white can't be beat IMO

The cupcakes are great, they are on the big side though, depending on how old the kids are they might not finish a whole one.

What is the filling? More frosting?

Maybe I'll do Costco cupcakes and Costco cake. :cool1:

They were sampling the cupcakes the other day at Costco and they are GOOD! SINFULLY GOOD! Although for kids at school - they are huge! Maybe a 1/2 of one for each would be plenty. I would hate to have those kids for the rest of the day - or on the bus after eating a whole cupcake! The kids will LOVE them!

Oh ya, Costco cakes are GOOD! I know people that keep their membership's just for cake buying alone. I have never tried the cupcakes.

The cakes are filled with mousse depending on what you want. They give you a choice when you order them. Most all of Costco bakery products are great but if you want a lot of cupcakes of a smaller size you might buy the 24 pack at BJ's. My DH is fascinated by the sheer size of the Costco cupcakes.

:thumbsup2 to Costco's cakes! There is a raspberry filling too. :)

Let me just be the lone dissenter: No.

Costco cakes are among the best where we are. We actually just got back from a birthday party where we had some! I am not wild about some of the fillings, but the simple ones are delicious. My only complaint is that their decorating options are very limited.

I would love to get my daughters a cake from Costco for their birthday, but I feel strongly that my girls get their own birthday cakes and two Costco cakes are out of the question. :faint:

Whenever Moms send in cupcakes for birthdays I make sure to give them to the kids as close to carpool as I can;)

The key is to "Sugar em up and send em home"

You aren't alone. The cake is OK, it's the frosting and fillings I can't stand. Way too sugary and the crisco or whatever the fat is in the frosting just coats your mouth and tongue. :crazy2:

That being said, I think their cupcakes would be fine to bring to school. Kids will eat it. I wouldn't, but my kids would.

Agreed on the limited designs, but for the price, the cakes can't be beat! Fortunately, I just take the leftovers (usually 1/2 a cake) to the dance studio and they disappear instantly! :rotfl:

SO good.

However, we never get any of the fillings, we've tried a couple and they are gross to us. So we have them fill ours with frosting :)

I think Costco cakes are OK, but the frosting is a bit more than I can handle if I eat an edge piece. It's just way too sweet for my liking.

I am curious. What don't you like about them? I always find it interesting how differently people view things.

My six-year old would totally eat those too!

Mostly, I don't care for them for the same reasons that Lib E said. I figure if I'm going to eat 500 or so calories that are pretty much worthless nutrition wise (no matter how good they taste), I want it to be really good and I don't want a lot of artificial ingredients and fillers. I hate biting into a piece of chocolate cake, for example, and tasting sugar rather than chocolate.

I'm not trying to be a food snob, though.:)

See, I am not a food snob and I was wondering why those with discerning tastes did not care for it.

I guess I should pay more attention to what I am eating sometimes. :)
