Are Citywalk Clubs Smoke-Free?

Hey all,

We're eating dinner at Emeril's on Tuesday night, and I would really like to take my wife and brother over to Rising Star afterward. However, my wife is 7 months pregnant, and I would like to keep her out of any smokey bar-type scenes. Are we SOL when it comes to Rising Star?

Thanks!

I am not familiar with Rising Star, but my understanding is: If the club serves food, you may not smoke.

I want to say that the only smoking club was Cigarz, which makes sense.

When hubby was a smoker, he always went outside. I never remember anyone smoking inside Pat O's, Margaritaville, NBA, HRC, NASCAR, City Jazz.

Last time I was in "Rising Star" (many months ago, when it was still CityJazz), they still served food and it was non-smoking.

I have to echo Jodie, I think the only club that allows indoor smoking is Cigarz. Certain that Margaritaville, Pat Os, Marleys and Latin Quarter do not, and don't recall Groove being all that smokey the two or three times I've been in there.

Yes, Florida Law says that the club must derive no more than 10% of its income from food if it is to be considered smoking. But it sounds like there are some restrictions around that. I guess if Rising Star stopped serving food when it was no longer City Jazz, then that would preclude it from being smoke-free.

Here is the law:

Under FL law, if an establishment derives more than 10 percent of its revenue from the sale of food, it must prohibit smoking. So pretty much only bars with maybe a vending machine, if that, still allow smoking.

This law is state-wide.

Now, businesses can certainly choose to not permit smoking regardless of the 10 percent law. We have several martini bars that do not offer any food, and they also do not permit smoking.

i read that rising star will serve some food. and drinks with clever names, like "liquid courage". lol i think that's a clever name, esp. for a karaoke bar!

It's been a couple of years since I've been in the Groove, but there was smoking at that time <which gratefully I've since stopped doing> :thumbsup2
