Are chicken feet a southern thing?

Most definitely NOT a southern thang! I was born in Virginia, raised in lower Alabama, and I have lived in Georgia for the past 21yrs and NO ONE I know has eaten chicken feet. However, I have seen them offered in Chinese restaurants.

I live in TN and there's no way I'd eat anything like that. I live in the south, not in the swamp.

Although I have never personally seen chicken feet, I know that two of Tomie De Paola's books for children mention them. One is Watch Out for the Chicken Feet in Your Soup and the other is in Tom. Tomie De Paola writes wonderful books for children with many of them based on his family, in particular his Irish and Italian grandparents.

I have seen them in our grocery stores before in Indiana. They are usually in the inner city stores that also sell things like hog mauws, tails, chittlins, raw and pickled pigs feet! I know that they are wonderful in soups because they are a natural thickener for chicken soups. I am in ALOT of grocery stores every day, so I see lots of "different" food items!!!

Born and raised 38 yrs in the deep south Alabama and I have never seen chicken feet in any grocery store or meat shop. I've never seen anyone eat them either. Im not sure what part of FL your in, but with all the different cultures here maybe that could explain why you see them.

Well, Tomie de Paola is my favorite children's author. You always can always tell who was in my first grade class because they will remember all of the TdeP books and activities we do all year. His books lend themselves to good lessons for children, especially about themselves, their experinces and their families.

Yes, but what about chicken nipple soup? Have you seen any of that around?
And I don't mean those teany, weany nipples either. I am looking for the hearty stuff....more like a stew I'd imagine.

I have actually eaten chicken feet in spicy sauce, but it wasn't a southern dish - it was dim sum in San Francisco.

My mother is southern and as far as I know nobody in her family EVER did anything with chicken feet.

Here in Hawaii, it's a Chinese thing -- many of the Chinese restaurants here serve chicken feet. My BF is part Chinese, and his family once hosted a dinner at a Chinese restaurant and his grandmother had pre-selected the courses. One of them was chicken feet! I tried it, but I'm sorry to say it is not my thing! However, I can say that I do know several people who really like it!

I've never heard of them either. My nieces' mom craved pickled pigs feet when she was pregnant, and I thought that was pretty nasty looking. I probably would've become a vegetarian if I had to get her some chicken feet too.

I live in Portland, Oregon and I've seen them in the grocery stores. I'm thinking about feeding them to Chad when he comes here.

I have lived in the south most of my life and I have never known anyone who ate chicken's feet! YUCK! My grandfather, on the other hand, was from NJ and loved pig's feet! Again, I say YUCK!!!

A family from Poland I knew made soup from them. They were new to the country and poor. I remember seeing pig's ears and snouts in the local supermarket when I lived in Providence.
