Are certain rooms for DVC members only?

Hello there!

Do they set aside certain rooms at the resorts for DVC members and others for the general public? The reason that I am asking is because, I am interested in renting and was told by an owner today that there is no availability for my dates. Yet I can go on to the Disney site and find an available room for the dates I want. Is this correct? Also, do things ever open up once they are full?

Thanks so much!

Richard

the stuff you see on the disney rental site - is not for DVC points. It is cash only!!!

this comes from the 3% to 5% that DVC kepts. (if a villa needs to repair they use it then). also comes from other DVC members using their exchange rights (except for II - II kepts any DVC) - CRO must rent the villa to get the money needed for the programs...

plus at 60 days and less - all the unrented villa goes to CRO to be rented out. This is good for owners - the profit goes to the general fund.

and yes sometimes a DVC resort that was full becomes available with points. that is what wait list are for....

A certain number of points not rooms are set aside for the general public it amount to about 4 percent of the total points, also as it gets close to the reservationss dates everything not gone to the members is open to the public.

However, I suspect most owners wouldn't be willing to wait list on a rental deal. Its risky - particularly as you get close to the travel date.

One more question: as I understand the only person that can check availability is a DVC owner, right? So, it's kind of hard for a renter to check to see if a sold out hotel opens up unless they know an owner, right?

Correct. Only an owner can check on availability of a DVC resort on points.

Non-members can rent for cash through CRO (Disney), but it will probably cost more.

Yes. Remember it's member's dues that pay for the phone lines and all the CM's who answer them.
