Are Canadians allowed to fly to the United States right now?

We have several times since this started. Myself drove once. Usually Air Canada. West jet became unreliable. This last time American Airlines to Charlotte. Then from there to Fla. .There were flights to Dallas and I think DC. Air Canada has been reliable to La Guardia and going back to Toronto from Fla locations. The Saturday flight was full of Canadians. Really it’s not that big of a deal flying out.

Where are you using for testing for the return? I was looking at the Walgreens tests, but couldn’t figure out which one was going to get us the fastest acceptable results. DH may have to go to FL for work next month, and I might tag along since I’d essentially be stuck quarantining with him on his return anyway.

There are places that cater to travellers. Like fly safe at shoppers drug mart. Same thing.

I’m looking for which tests to have done in the States to use to get back into Canada...what did you use? Any recommendations of chains to look for? DH won’t have much free time to search while he’s away.

If your DH is travelling for work, isn’t it their job to find out this type of info. for him?

I wish. The HR department is spectacularly useless.

Huh. Seems to me it’s time for a memo to HR. If they are sending your DH to work in another country when non-essential travel is officially discouraged, it’s on HR to do their due diligence. If it’s essential for him to go, then it is equally essential for them to do their work.

In BC last price I heard was $2000 🤷‍♀️ Extortion!

Check all hotels participating because it’s not necessarily $2000. I’m in Ontario and found one I’m booking for September if it’s still required and it’s only $789, that includes the tax, for the 3 nights. That’s per person as well. We have around 10 hotels participating so I would think BC would be the same.

We just pd for a place to come to the house to do it. $250 a person. My wife found them coming in from Orlando. We will drive back this time. But it’s still needed.

On the Air Canada website I was checking out their covid information and under where to get a test in Canada or the US they listed 4 sites where you could purchase tests before your trip and send them through fedex or ups and get the results back before flying back to Canada

I think it has to be done on FaceTime while they watch or instruct how to do it. Personally I would not trust that way.

At least one of them has that part as optional. Why wouldn't you trust it if it's endorsed by a major airline?

I realize this is going to make some people mad, but I just want to know the technical rules. My sister lives in Ontario and she wants to come and visit me in Ohio for a few weeks. She’s 28 years old, healthy, and has already had the first Pfizer shot. She was planning on flying to Cleveland, visiting me in Ohio for a few weeks, and then driving across the border with me and we would quarantine for two weeks (and take all the tests and do all the paperwork we need to do) just the two of us at my parents’ cottage. I’m a US permanent resident, but a Canadian citizen. I haven’t been able to see my family in well over a year and this will be the only time I can visit them (because of the two week quarantine) for a while. I had Covid in February (very mild case, thankfully) and I am fully vaccinated. I know all the rules for driving into Canada, but is she even able to fly out of the country for nonessential reasons? I know it’s HIGHLY frowned upon, but are you actually able to do it? I’m sure I’ll get plenty of hate for this and we probably won’t even do it, but I miss my family so freaking much. 😢

I know how you feel ! This pandemic truly does suck ! We called customs and then the actual border in the summer last year and they gave us all the info , we were trying to go to Canada but weren’t able to .

Hey everyone! I’m currently in Canada and on day 10 of quarantine. I thought I’d come back and give an update about my experience thus far. My sister didn’t end up flying to the States and I ended up driving up to Canada with my three kids and we are planning on staying for 6 weeks.

The border was dead on both sides when we crossed. Everyone was very friendly and helpful at the border. They had to call my sister to make sure she would follow the quarantine guidelines, gave us our Covid tests and then we were on our way. It took about 45 minutes to do all of that. On day 8 someone from Health Canada came to the house to make sure we were at our quarantine location and that we were following the rules. I knew that was a possibility, but I was surprised someone actually came. The guy that checked on us stayed outside and talked to me through a window. He was nice and only stayed for about two minutes. We also did our day 8 Covid test that day which took about two hours to get a nurse on the video call. We ended up staying at my parents’ main house and they’re currently at their cottage. Only five more days until we can finally see them!

This is the first time I've actually heard of someone visiting. I've left the country and come back 3 times since the quarantine restrictions (not since hotel quarantine) and never got a visit and hardly even got phone calls.

Thank you for sharing. I like reading experiences to know how the process works

I was really surprised too. I had quite a few calls the first week, but not as many the past couple of days. They’re mostly automated calls, but an actual person called me and asked me the questions once.

Would you mind sharing which city do you live in? I am wondering if it is because it is close to the board and easy for them to arrange a visit/check up.
We are planning to go to FL in July, I have enough of this pandemic forcing us to cancel our summer trip. I am will to do tests and do quarantine after we came home. I would like to gather as much information as I can to make this trip happen. (but still hope they will reopen the border before our planned travel dates).

Since your trip is in July and testing requirements are still in place, do you mind saying where you are getting tests done in Orlando? Now that the maingate testing center is closed I'm having a hard time finding something that is convenient. Air Canada has posted some sites that sell test kits but then you need to get to a fedex location as well.

Do we have to produce a neg Covid test to enter the US now too? I Don’t think I’m going to travel until these regulations are lifted for fully vaccinated people. I haven’t booked air yet for August until we know more. Meanwhile watching fares going up 😵‍💫
