Are Cabbage Patch Kids "in" or is it just us 30 something's buying them?

OK, I've bought Lily a "couple" of CPK's that are now sitting in her room waiting for her to come home. :) If you've been to a retail store lately you know they're everywhere...I'm 32 (ugh) and was part of the big craze in my childhood.

Anyway, I mentioned them to a 6 yo and got the cold shoulder about them, and a friend of mine got the same from her 4 year old. Are kids WANTING these or are we just buying them to walk down memory lane? Are they on your kids list? Just curious, I have a hard time passing up the aisle, even though I'm NOT a doll person.

Also - if a 6 or 7 yo doesn't like these, but likes dolls what should I look for as a Christmas gift? I'm so out of this loop it's not funny.

I bought a small (boy) CPK for my grandson 3 years ago and my DD was appauled! She lived through the Cabbage Patch craze!! She said she thought the CPK would scare her DS! WHAT!?? I am not a doll person, either, but they seem to have a kid-friendly face...to me, anyway! :confused3

I guess I will wait along with you for a reply as to what kids that age are interested in... :goodvibes

i had a friend who made the black friday dash to target last year to grab a couple for her teen daughter. they now sit at home and their "adoptive mom" has visitation when she is home from college ;)

I had one as a girl, so I bought my girls one each for Christmas last year. One currently sits on a shelf, and the other on the bed, but neither really get touched. I think it might be the 30-somethings buying them. :rotfl:

My 8 year old daughter thought they were ugly.

My DD doesn't like them at all. Come to think about it, I hated them as a kid too!

I remember when the original ones came out that were handmade and around $80 -- you could only find them in gift shops. Then, BOOM! :earseek: They were everywhere!

30' somethings buying them.

DD - 11 had one when she was little - never plyed with it - gone to Salvation Army a LONG time ago -
DD - 1 1/2 had to have one for her 1st b-day right - lol but it sits on a shelf - and it is ugly (my mom didn't know what to get her so I told her to get it)

I was trying to covince my six year old son that he needed a boy one LOL. He had no interest at all. I did see one named "Summer" (my name) at Toys R Us a while back. I regret not buying it now because I've never seen one named Summer since.

I can't walk past a row of them to see the names and stuff. The ones with the teeth still freak me out a bit though!

I am 54 and just bought two of them for my grandnieces. One of the dolls has my name (Marilyn) and I couldn't pass it up. Now, I'm thinking I made a mistake. I just might keep Marilyn for me!!! My grandnieces are three and four and I thought they would like them - but, after reading this thread, I have my doubts. I think I'll return one and keep one. I've always loved them. I think they are very cute.

Girls are into American Girl dolls--or Bitty Baby for the younger girls. Really cute dolls. I saved my CPK for my daughter and she isn't interested in it at all! I was sad until we started American Girl/Bitty Baby.

My little cousin (7) thinks they are ugly and doesn't really have an interest in them. I want to get one for DD and DH keeps laughing at me and telling me to just admit that I want one. I remember the absolute craze for them. The first one I ever had my grandparents went to Atlanta :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: to get and I had to share it with my brother because they could only get one! Of course he was so not interested in it that I was more than willing to "share." :rotfl: My favorite was a corn-silk kid - the ones that had shiny hair you could brush.

My DD received one for her 2nd bday. She LOVES it!! It goes everywhere with her. She has tea parties with it, and it sits at the table for dinner...... this little doll will be getting lots of clothes for Christmas.

I wanted to get her a Bitty Baby for Christmas, but she has this doll and another baby doll that are her favorites, so I think I'll just build on this.

I think since DD is only 2, she doesn't know what's "in" and what's not. She just knows what she likes.

:)

I was surprised to see them everywhere and thought we were entering another craze with them. I asked my DD9 which one she liked, thinking I would get her one for her birthday last August. Her reply was, "Don't you DARE buy me one of those things! They're ugly!"
I was taken back by her reply, I mean, yeh, they're ugly in a cute sort of way :confused3 Anyway, I was told no one (under 30) wants one of those things.

Well, thanks for the replies, but I was hoping to hear different answers!! :rotfl2:

I saw the Bitty Babies when I was ordering some Angelina Ballerina stuff from American Girl. I might look into that I guess too. The Dolls there scare me, between the dolls themselves and the accessories it's a fortune!

Well, my 8yr old DD is in the minority. She has two CPK's and is getting a newborn one from her older sister for Christmas. She doesn't play with them all of the time but when she does play with them she has a wonderful time.

I have to agree with this. my 7YO loves her American Girl doll and will be getting more clothes etc for Christmas.

I gues my DD's are out of the ordinary. They both have CBK's and LOVE them. A good friend of mine actually found one named Alana Carolyn (my DD11's name is Alana and I'm Carolyn) in Virginia and sent it us. DD11 also has a small CBK and DD6 has a CBK preemie.(she was a preemie)
They also both love American Girl dolls and DD11 has Samantha.

Well, my dd is 6 (almost 7) and she has the new Cabbage Patch Baby on her Christmas list, so I got her one. HappyBratPack, did you get the Asian ones? I saw some on Ebay and I thought they were adorable! Of course, I'm in my 30's too! :rolleyes1

I got a baby type CBK for DD#1 when she was 1, and another one for her 2nd bday--I made sure it had her eye and hair color, etc. Well she could not have cared less. As soon as she started passing toys down to her sister she gave them up. And now DD#2 (she is now 10, DD#1 is 13) keeps throwing hers in the "giveaway toys" pile. I am trying to put together a small box of "keepsake" toys for my someday grandkids and I will probably put Mallory and Amy (the dolls) in that box.
