We're from AZ and enjoy the fact that we can go to DL on our Fall Break because at least the CA schools are still in session...:goodvibes

But I've been hearing from multiple places that some CA schools are OFF next week (Oct. 4-8) due to forced furlough days... :scared1:

Is that true? Does anyone know?? :confused3
Thanks!

I live in Central Cali and no schools around here have that week off.
Not sure about Southern Cali though..

We live in CA and have 4 furlough days but ours are all spread out throughout the year. I don't think we have any time off until Veteran's Day in Nov. (4 day weekend) and then a week off for Thanksgiving. BTW - we are on a regular school year schedule and have only been back in school for 5weeks - year round might be different.

We are In Northern California and we have the following week off the 11-15 off. They always have the week of Columbus day off.

San Jose Unified, which is the biggest school district in San Jose, CA (San Francisco Bay Area) is off until October 11th, 5 furlough days. Yes, there are quite a few families that I personally know that will be there next week. I don't think it will really have that much of an impact though. It's not like Thanksgiving or Christmas break where *everyone* is out of school.

(*gulp*), ok...that's what I was afraid of...that the rumors were true :sad1: Ok, thank you so much for your replies so far!! It helps us to slightly readjust our "mindset" and prepare for bigger crowds, possibly...
It's always good to know, going in, that it might be more crowded than you were planning on....

Anyone else in CA know anything about the schools in their area being off or not?

Thanks so much!! :-)

We have this Friday only off as a furlough day and won't be going to DL. Our school district is small. There are tons of school districts throughout the state on all kinds of different schedules. I wouldn't worry too much about furlough days affecting park crowds. I agree that state/federal holidays, spring break periods, and summer are more the times to watch out for. That being said, crowd patterns at DL have really changed over the last few years, so you can always end up being surprised by unexpected busy-ness. Just go in with a plan of what's most important to you and do it early; then everything else is gravy.

Thanks everyone...you're making me feel a little better! :-)

And yes, we'll do the most important 1st, grab our FP's every chance we get, and just enjoy the day...! :-)

(We're FINALLY using our GAD/GAD vouchers from our February volunteering day!!) :D

In Southern Cali there are a few schools that are having fall break/furlough days soon.

I live in Central CA and the school district I work at has Oct 18-22 off but my son's school district that he attends does not have a fall break.

I just checked for LA Unified and San Diego Unified (two of the biggest districts in So Cal), and for the most part, schools are in session. There are some year-round schools that are off track most of Oct, but the majority are not.

Have a great trip!

Well, that's leading into Columbus Day weekend, which was sick and wrong busy last year. They had park closures, even...when we first entered a park, and that park was DCA, we had to get our hands stamped, just in case of closures later...the biggest oddity of that is that we were AP holders... If you're there over the weekend, you've been forewarned!

We live in Northern California, and our kids will be on their second week of Fall Intersession next week (and the majority if them head down to Disneyland...)

I'd honestly be shocked if the "majority" of kids from anywhere head to Disneyland when schools are closed. I'm pretty sure most parents are working hard these days, and maybe one or two kids out of a class may be going.

San Diego schools are NOT off in October, btw.

Thanks so much for the continued updates/information! I really appreciate it...and LOVE :goodvibes the Disboard members for great stuff like this!! You all are super!! :disrocks:

Luckily, (regarding leading into Columbus Day weekend) we are only going to be in the parks Tuesday & Wednesday of this week (10/5 & 10/6), so hopefully the Columbus Day issue WON'T be an issue for us! :thumbsup2

All Hawaii schools have next week off for Falk break. I personally know 8 families that will be there all week.

I am in the east bay area of northern cali and most of the school here go year round and were off last week and are off this coming week. A lot of families head down to DL.

yikes...I'm not sure what to think about the crowds now...but I do appreciate the extra info. from everyone...
Thanks so much!!! :-)

It's not the CA schools, I'm worried about. Its all the AZ schools that are off for fall break next week and the week after that head over to CA for their vacations. Like us!
