We're going to be celebrating our daughter's fifth birthday on our trip, and we're having the Contemporary's bakery deliver a cake to our room at VWL (we're doing Epcot that day). Is it OK to bring along some birthday candles for her to blow out, or will we set off the fire detectors? It's not that big of a deal, but I'd like to have some candles for her to blow out on her birthday. Maybe we could do it out on the balcony...

I've never heard of this being a problem at any hotel and we've done it ourselves many times. If you think about it, people using the DVC villa kitchens can generate a lot more smoke and heat than a few candles.

I don't think you will have any problem, if worried turn on the vent on the microwave.

I am surprised to hear that the bakery will deliver I was not aware they would do that.

The Contemporary bakery will only deliver to MK-area resorts. He said that taking it to Akershus in Epcot was too far, but they'd bring it to the room at VWL. And no delivery fee! :thumbsup2

I celebrated my birthday at AKV 2 years ago and we brought candles. Never had a problem. Have fun! :)

A five year old birthday cake...no problem with that few number of candles. On the other hand, if we celebrated my birthday with cake and candles....

I think you will be totally fine. When I was on my honeymoon my husband and I stayed at the Beach Club Villas in a one bedroom. I thought it would be a great idea to wake up early and make breakfast in bed. I put some bacon on the stove, and set the burner to high, and then I went outside to call my mom. About five minutes went by, and I kinda forgot about the bacon. I was reminded by the fire alarm that was going off!!!

I ended up being totally fine, we aired out the room, and the alarm went off pretty fast. No one ever came to check on us or anything. Now I just have a really great story about the first meal I ever made for my husband!
