I'm sure waist packs won't be a problem, but DH and DS will probably want to carry a backpack with ponchos, extra water bottles, sunscreen, etc. Do they require that you stand on a line to get them checked out? Does the line move fast or should we ditch the backpacks?

Thanks

Yes, the parks allow backpacks. You'll have to go through a security check, but the line moves quite fast.

You have to stand in a line to check the bags. But you would have to stand in it anyway for waist packs so that doesnt matter. I usually dont bring a bag for waters and all that we take one bottle and each person holds theirs. Never really put sunscreen on... should try that sometime. haha
There are lockers that you can rent under the Main Street train station. You could always leave those as an option.

Backpacks are allowed in the parks, and the line to check bags moves pretty quickly. I found it to be invaluable to have a backpack with me, if you don't mind having your back get a little hot from carrying it around in the parks. It also provides a great place to store things everyone buys in the park throughout the day.

Here is a suggestion...

I have a small backpack that is also an insulated cooler. I usually only put towels, ponchos, sunscreen, wipes and band aids in it. MOST importantly, I take some ziplock bags and put ice in them. When the water bottles on your fanny pack run out- replace it with ICE COLD water- ahhhhhhhhhh :) Keeps the wipes cool, too. Got it at REI if you are interested.

I think it's a good idea to have some large ziplock baggies in your backpack anyway. If your clothes get wet then you can put them in the bag without drenching everything around. Plus I like to keep an extra pair of clean socks with me (I hate wet socks...and sneakers without socks in the summer...yech!)

I agree, if you're going to wear a fanny pack or carry any type of purse at all you'll still need to go thru security. I couldn't imagine going to the parks without my backpack!! It's not a big deal with security, just allow for some extra time getting into the parks if you have a PS or somewhere in the park you need to be at a certain time.

We always take backpacks. We carry lots of little snacks for the kids and wet wipes to clean up those sticky ice cream hands - napkins just don't do the trick.

Anyway, the security lines are not bad. There are plenty of them. It helps if you have your bag open - they usually just take a quick peak and you move on.
